Sorry Ben.
My exposure to theological stuff is much broader than my exposure to the rest of the world. What is "Calgary Transit"? -
A guess at the acronym CT.
-
Sorry. Should have caught that. Answer is one up from bottom of previous page.
I know I must be bright, my Dad used to call me "sun". But then they put that "Slow Children" sign in front of my house. That "LABEL" has been a permanent scar on my psyche. I'll never be the same. Me neither. -
Ed,
Secondly, commentators like Calvin and Adam Clarke whose lifes work was the scholarly exposition of scriptural truth during the period of and just prior to Darby didn't even acknowledge the existence of any theory about the church being raptured. Matthew Henry, again, a writer just before Darby never even CONSIDERED the idea.
Thirdly, scripture has been provided abudantly on this post that, what is merely "canned answers" provided by the likes of Tim LaHaye, Hal Lindsay, and Dallas TS, are laid out as perversion of the truth. These scriptures cannot be denied if it is taken literally though;
So, now you have scripture and you have history! You have no excuses. The responsibility lies at your own feet! Choose whom you follow - Christ or Darby? -
explanation of "Covenant Theology", and
the book suggestion.
So what the CTs are trying to say here is that
Dispensationalism is Elitist but
Covenant Theorlogy is for everyone?
Can't that be said without dissing Dispensationalismists? -
Ed..et al,.

Trailblazer: "Choose whom you follow - Christ or Darby?"
I have followed Christ for going on 53 years now.
I have never followed Darby.
However, from what i've seen of Darby from my postie
friends, what Darby teaches does not contradict Christ.
You have proposed a false dichotomy. -
Now, step up to the plate - which dispensationalist is going to have the courage to accept or deny the words of Christ?
So, now you have scripture and you have history! You have no excuses. The responsibility lies at your own feet! Choose whom you follow - Christ or Darby? -
TB,
You're ire is as misguided as it is misplaced. You selectively quote from a few early Christians and pretend like that settles the issue. I have news for you. Premillennialism was clearly a view, if not the predmoninant view of the early church.
SEcondly, as I and others have pointed out before, every single doctrine underwent times of development. To talk about the early church fathers view of something is difficult, because there is not "early church view." They were very divided on many things, and only in times of controversy where those things ironed out. YOu can see that in virtually every doctrine. Eschatology is no exception. But the elements of dispensationalism are clealry in Scripture. You may choose ot interpret them differently, and that is fine. It really is. But it is absurd and foolhardy to deny that the elements are there. The elements of dispensationalism are found long before Darby, in men liks Watts, Poiret, and others. Renald Showers gives some vital information.
Thirdly, it is hard to converse with you when you absolutely refuse to do any reading or find out what you actually disagree with. I can't imagine why that is. If you are so confident, why not at least find out what your opponents say. McClain is an excellent book on the kingdom. Other books can give you much insight.
Fourthly, your last post shows a false dichotomy. First, no one here is "believeing Darby over Christ." That is an absurd accusation. Such hyperbole from you is not helpful. Dispensationalism does not deny the teaching of Christ in any respect. It simply sees that Christ said something different than covenantalism see him saying. That is, to some degree, a legitimate area of debate.
Lastly, if you are a child of God, you are a brother. You will be raptured before the tribulation and you will spend the next thousand and seven years with the dispensational brothers you are attacking. (Or something like that ... :D ) ... You might consider backing off the rhetoric and being more kind and gracious. I am not accusing your or Craig or anyone else of the type of things. I said some very direct things to Craig because of a very specific instance. Craig unfortunately took offense, even though he had done the same thing to me earlier. This thread should not be rancorous. We can disagree as brothers in Christ.
To answer your question: which dispensationalist is going to have the courage to accept or deny the words of Christ? I did long ago ... that is why I am a dispensationalist. -
This topic is continued at:
#2 Dispy v. CT
I'll see you there. -
So I take it you deny the words of Christ that it will be ON THE SAME DAY?
-
Very clearly, TB, I accept the words of Christ. That is why I am a dispensationalist.
-
But do you deny the words of Christ teaching that the resurrection of the just and the unjust will occur ON THE SAME DAY and the destruction of the unjust and the saints go to be with the Lord forever ON THE SAME DAY?
Now, step up to the plate - which dispensationalist is going to have the courage to accept or deny the words of Christ?
So, now you have scripture and you have history! You have no excuses. The responsibility lies at your own feet! Choose whom you follow - Christ or Darby? </font>[/QUOTE] -

Ed,...do you deny the words of Christ that the last event will occur on the same day?

You have NOT said that you deny the pretrib rapture and all other dispensationalism teachings and that you never will teach them to anyone because you accept the words of Christ in Luke 17 as being the ONLY truth about the end times and how the resurrection of the just and the unjust - the punishment of the wicked and the rewards of the saints WILL ALL OCCUR ON THE SAME DAY.
You "appear" to be only partially alluding to this NEW acceptance. -
Passed the 20 page limit on all threads, so will close this discussion.
