The whole "mark foley" thing isn't really that surprising to me. It's been pretty obvious we have a corrupted congress. BTW you're using pedophilia alot but mark foley is actually an ephebophile. But anyways, now we have a bunch of people coming out and saying they got e-mails and junk too. I think now we have people just wanting attention though some might be true.
The main thing is were you really that surprised someone got caught doing something that is so completly wrong in congress?
The truth is that Mark Foley, a Republican, got caught doing something which is very contrary to the Republican mantra of 'family values."
If you can prove that the entire Congress is corupt let's see your evidence.
Of course there are good guys (gals)...out of 435 there must be.
But anecdotally, I had a good friend serve as a page about 10 years ago. He was told by one of the AL congressional staff members which congressmen to avoid (I believe there were 5-6 of them). Both sides of the aisle had some, shall we say, members with Foley-like reputations.
Issues that make things worse, and provide the environment for congressoinal scumbags:
A very dumb electorate...gullible, uninformed, and usually closed-minded.
A system that rewards incumbents--with power, money, and almost sure-fire re-election.
Leadership that places party success above morality. (See the kid-glove treatment for the pervert, Rep. Gerry Studds, D-Mass (SOURCE), in the 1980's, and now Foley (R-Fla)).
This is not a party issue. People in Congress will do wrong because we are all sinners. Belonging to a party with a mantra of family values doesn't exlude one from sin any more than being a member of the other party does.
More in congress need to stand up for what's right and moral and call those our elected reprobates to task and expose them if that's necessary.
He recently "got caught" sending the bad emails and IM's, but the GOP has known he was a homosexual for quite a few years and still supported him, how does that tie in to "the Republican mantra of 'family values'"?
They are virtually ALL corrupt, maybe only a small percentage of pedophiles.
But nevertheless, they are ALL corrupt, beholden to the wishes of the PACs and other lobbyists, (not their constituents), primarily looking out for self interests and lining their own pockets (portfolios) or those of their cronies, spouses, and other friends and relativess, having plenty of extramarital affairs and other improprieties, and old fashioned morals and character are a joke in DC.
On BOTH sides of the aisle.
One only needs to go look at how our tax dollars are squandered (by both parties) to see the tiniest point of the iceberg.
Everyone does "favors" for everyone else, and even though some things they do may not be illegal, they certainly are self serving to make themselves even more rich and powerful and not in the interests of the people who elected them to serve.
The only reason I am going to vote this November is about the issue of
same sex marriage in Tennessee.
I seriously doubt I will vote for any candidate, but if I do, it will be AGAINST all incumbents.
Throw all the bums out.
Not only throw the bums (to be nice) out, but dismantle the democratic and republican party.
Something has gone very wrong at some point in time.
It is too late to reform these two.
