I just saw him doing a farewell speech on FoxNews from the US Senate. Was he up for re-election? Did he resign? Was he term limited? Who is taking his place?

His term was up this year and he announced before the campaign that we would not seek re-election. He's being replaced by Richard Burr, a Republican who formerly served in the House.
-
Excellent. Another Senate seat lost for the Democrats.

John Edwards will probably go back to what he does best, being a trial lawyer and helping the insurance companies bilk all of us. Just found out my health insurance premiums are going to have a 22% blanket hike through my employer and they won't even pay for me to go to the hospital where my family doctor has privileges. Thanks again for nothing Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Merry Christmas.

There is a serious healthcare crisis in this country and no one is doing anything about it. Today even with insurance most people cant even afford the high deductibles. Its a problem everywhere. Businesses cant afford to pay the high premiums anymore and I dont blame them. They should have put there foot down a long time ago.
What it boils down to is that we are paying to live longer. -
Only God is holding back a depression in America. Does anyone wonder why the dollar is devalued on the world market? We should just keep buying more junk from China and outsoure many of our jobs to India and China. Soon there will be less and less of a middle class of people; only the rich who do business through outsourcing and the poor who are always with us. Merry Christmas and lots of luck at trying to buy gifts for everyone. But, be sure to pick up a special gift for someone from 'our favored trading nation, China.
And for John Edwards his loss in the election couldn't happened to a nicer 'girley man.'

But why are businesses outsourcing? Is it because they cant afford to pay union wages? Cant afford the high cost of the fringe benefits the unions demand? While it is true that those of us in the private sector are suffering due to outsourcing, dont you think it is about time those in govt paying jobs stop reaching into the taxpayers pocket to continue to give themselves raises every year and full paid health benefits that those of us in private industry no longer recieve?

Tampa Florida,
I agree with you but not every job up north is a union employment. In fact, many big companies moved their whole operation south of the Mason-Dixon line so they could hire less expensive people to work for them, plus for tax reasons. People complained during the election that there are only a few good jobs in Ohio; then go to a state where the jobs are located like California or wherever. Didn't Jesus say, 'Seek and ye shall find?'
I would have preferred to pastor only in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, but even in the ministry you have to go to other states, and through it all we hope as ministers to do His will and pleasure.
Both political parties claim to be working for a unified health plan affordable to all people, but once in office, they 'rest on their oars.' Hypothetically speaking, if we all had voted for an independant party, would we have done better is trying to get a unified medical coverage for everyone? Not that that would ever happen . . . -
Ray,
BTW, I have only been here in FLA for a little over a year. I was born and lived the first 49 years of my life in southeastern PA. -
Get the government out of health care. Remove special government protection and favor for the insurance industry. Pass state laws that require a person bringing a lawsuit to pay the amount to the person they are suing if the suit is defeated. Encourage high deductibles, putting routine care back into the hands of patients and doctors. Care for your neighbor, and take care of your family.

What we will have to do is learn to die at a younger age. The average Joe cant afford the cost of all these tests and procedures that enable doctors to catch diseases at an early stage. For an example, my doctor is enccouraging me to have a colonoscopy. Because I have a high deductible it will cost me around 1400.00 dollars. No can do.
I recently went through a period where I was between jobs and had no insurance and my wife needed surgery and it wiped out my entire savings. Thats one surgery. One night in the hospitol. Now if everyone had high deductibles and the doctors and hospitols had no insurance companies to pay their fees then maybe the market would force them to lower their prices. -
Yep, exactly. Take a look at:
1) the office buildings being put up by insurance companies.
2) the homes being built by malpracticelawyers and insurance executives (millions of them)
and you'll see how much money is being bilked from the public in the name of "health care".
Doctors earn and deserve a good salary; mostmalpractice lawyers and insurance executives are worthless leaches. -

I had to say most because I have a friend who's an insurance executive. He might not want to bowl with me anymore if I said "all".
