Saying Alcohol is a sin is like saying sex is a sin.
It just depends on the context of usage.
Is sex a sin?

Hi Sister;
I see a point in your post, for 25% alcohol in Nyquil is a good thing in dealing with colds. A healthy sex life within the sanctified marriage is a good thing.
Buying the drug from a liquor store, and supporting an industry which causes and contributes so much destruction within our society is a bad thing. Sex outside of heterosexual marriage is anathema.
A servant of Christ,

I fully agree with you both!

Man, why am I so   fearful   of where this thread may lead!
Saggy! I'm, I'm, I'm . . . speechless! -
As opposed to Bob, I'm drooling with anticipation to where this thread may lead
Must be a difference in cultural heritage. Or maybe I'm just a decadent pervert :D ;) -
I know...Saggy Woman hardly says anything on the board, and then this type of subject. What is the B.B. coming to???
Just kidding, I agree with you, context determins a lot. -
God created sex for the purpose of pro-creation and the pleasures derived within the bonds of marriage between a man and a woman. PERIOD!
Like many things that are intended for good, they become bad, sinful, and harmful when abused by over-indulgence and perversion of the intended use. Four good examples that fit this model are:
Food
Alcohol
Sex
Drugs -
Rock and Roll? ;)

God created everything and everything God created is GOOD. Satan has perverted many of the things God created and they are now used for evil.
Because sin is fun 'for a season', people (including some Christians) fall into the trap of thinking the sinful activities are OK and eventually if will sear our conscious.
God created food...satan perverted it by telling us gluttony was not a sin.
God created sex...satan perverted it by telling us that one does not have to be married to indulge in it and it is not a sin.
God created alcohol (not sure about this one)...but either way, satan perverted it by telling us that getting drunk was not a sin.
God created music...satan perverted it by telling us it was not sin to listen to unGodly songs, with unGodly words, and unGodly beats that go against the heart's regular rhythm.
God created drugs...satan perverted them when he started dealing in the black market and showed people how to make illegal street drugs and telling us "if it feels good, do it".
I will repeat, everything that God created is good, it does not become sin until satan perverts it from it's intended use.
We just need to keep our eyes on Jesus. He will never steer us wrong. -
I agree with I Am Blessed 16 .

The fermentation process is a result of naturally occuring yeasts on the skin of grapes. Is yeast also a result of sin?
Alcohol is recommended in the Bible a couple of times. As John mentioned, it is the abuse, not the use or the presence of which is a sin.
I am willing to bet that the threads about alcohol rival in number the threads about clothing and hair.
Isn't it time folks around here were encouraged to the positive instead of concentrating on negatives? It does seem like arguing is a favorite Baptist passtime on the Board! -
In any event, there was no argument started from this end ... -
Disagreeing is not necessarily arguing.

I believe it was Mae West, who, upon being asked if sex was bad, replied "it is if it's done right".
Sex is great!!!! Let's get that out of the way. Let's also stop telling our kids that sex is bad!!! We need to start telling them the truth, that sex outside of marriage is forbidden, and that it has negative concequences. That will go a lot further, and be more biblically appropriate, than saying "bad bad bad!!!!". -
I think Larry's point is that the process of fermentation was not part of the cosmos until after the flood.
Therefore, it is the result of sin without itself being sin. -
So a baby born out of wedlock is sin??? Is that a form of fermentation?

DIDN'T I WARN YOU? Saggy, I'm holding you (up) as the irresponsible party who started all this. S-x leads to dr-nk leads to . .
