Trump Administration Will Make Drug Companies Post Prices in Commercials
The Trump administration will require prescription drug companies to post prices in TV commercials, a move that is expected to trigger lawsuits over free speech.
Drug companies will be forced to follow the rule in about two months, and it will apply to drugs that cost more than $35 a month and that are covered by the government health programs Medicare and Medicaid. Drug companies already have to post the major side effects of drugs in commercials.

I agree with it.
We should be like the rest of the world in this area and outlaw drug advertising. We should choose our doctor. He should recommend and educate us on the drugs we take.
Totally agree, ‘cept the drug co.’s would then just focus their tactics on the Dr.s.
Even so, I would prefer this approach over the current media blitz. Then the only real problem would be
— how much do you trust your Dr...??
Yes.
And I'd like doctors and hospitals to be forced to post prices as well.
It brings about competition and drives prices down.
It helps to prevent discrimination in the charging of services.
Everyone else has to post prices.
Why should the medical profession be exempt?
I don't think EVERYONE ELSE has to post prices. I can only think of one other product that the federal government compels to post prices in advertising and that is on new vehicles.
Disagree!!!!
- so would this only pertain to TV or also Radio.
Trump has promised LESS govt regulation.
If a person wants to know the price of a drug - then they can ask!
IN addition - it may not be the same price
thurout the USA.
So if the commerically says "and the price is only "19.99
-- excluding Alaska and Hawaii"
IF that is the case - will they be required to also give the price in Alaska and Hawaii?
And that "19.99"
is that for one pill, a 10 day supply, a 30 day supply????
Not directly.
But indirectly and through the states this does happen.
The Medical Profession is given a federally protected monopoly.
If it gave up its monopoly, I would be more inclined to let bygones be bygones.
But they are a monopoly and if I tried to go into business against the monopoly the federal stormtroopers you and I pay for would throw me into prison for the rest of my life.
The Medical Profession is the only private non-government group which doesn't allow you to choose the product, is allowed to charge you even when you specifically refuse treatment, and is allowed to charge you additional money months or more after the fact.
And this entire monopoly is protected by federal and state laws.
I really don't care if such people whine and bellyache about having to post their prices.
No they can't.
That's part of my point.
Have you ever tried to call up drug companies and ask for prices?
Pharmacists won't provide prices either, unless you have a prescription for it.
But yes, let's have fewer regulations.
Let's start by allowing people to buy medicine without scripts.
If it promotes competition between the drug companies I'd think this would have some obvious benefits. It might also be a wake-up call for a society that loves to believe their is an easy way out pill for every neglectfully derived unhealthy condition.
