This poll may cover too many topics at once, but recently there has been some debate over precisely what is meant by "gambling," or how much alcohol (or if any at all) is too much, what is wrong with dancing (or what types of dancing), and what activities should be allowed (or are there any restrictions) on the sabbath or day of worship.
This poll is in the Baptist Theology & Bible Study forum because this seems to be where all the debate is over these topics, and we are looking primarily for comments from Baptists.

Cooking on Sunday? You SINNERS!
Should go OUT to eat . . at least, that's what the wife always says. -
Acceptable gamble: Not tithing enough
Unacceptable gambling: Russian Roulette
Acceptable drinking: glass of 1999 merlot
Unacceptable drinking; 2 bottles of the same wine
Acceptable dancing: The samba
Unacceptable dancing: Lap Dancing outside of marriage
It seems that balance is the deciding factor, not the actual act. We all gamble everyday, Jesus drank wine, and we all dance, even if it is the jig after we get a raise at work.
God says he has set his law in our hearts, so if we are walking with Christ, then we know what sin is and when we cross that line. -
Many things listed that I just won't do, but I don't force my standards on anyone else.

As of 26 votes, the results are mostly within expectations, although I am a little surprised at these few things:
2 voters say it is still wrong to have a daily alcoholic drink although it is advised by a physician.
4 voters say "any form of dancing is wrong under any cirsumstances for a Christian," yet less than 4 say some of the various examples are wrong; including none who say dancing by a married couple in a private setting is wrong.
35% say gambling is still wrong even if all proceeds go to a reputable charity.
3 voters say it is wrong to agree with a friend from an opposing school that whoever's team loses buys dinner; and 3 also say it's wrong to agree that whoever catches the least number of fish carries all the tackle.
2 voters believe housecleaning and shopping are wrong on ones' day of worship, yet none believe cooking or dining out are wrong on that day... I guess that's Baptists; as long we get to eat, forget the rules that apply otherwise. Similarly, 4 say mowing or yardwork should not be done, but only 2 say that about gardening.
Another observation of interest is that 23% say going visiting on one's day of worship is wrong "if it interferes with worship attendance." When I was growing up, 2 or 3 times a year our family took my grandmother (a widow who didn't drive) to see my aunt and her family almost 100 miles away, and Sunday was almost always the only day we could do that, since it was the only day both Mom and Dad were off. My parents weren't that concerned about missing church, but that type of visit was one of the few things for which my grandmother would gladly forego it. So I can agree with that answer if it is an excuse to miss church, but not if Sunday (or 'day of worhsip') is the only day it can be done. -
This past week I had an interesting discussion with one of my taxi customers. He told me he recently spent $60 (of extra money) at the Indian Casino.
He then took his kids to the movies. By the time they bought the tickets, popcorn, drinks, ect, he spent $60.
Whats the difference?
PS, does it make a difference that Keith is blind? -
I can't believe you people, the nerve of such a sin, breathing on Sunday! Don't you know that you are supposed to hold your breath from Sat evening until Mon Morning!!!

What I will not permit myself to do I will not keep from you.Sad it is to say even if something in and of itself is not a sin we are to keep from all appearance of sin, not for our sakes but for the sake of others.
Oh, and by the way if we have to look like we a sufferin for the Lord while abstaining from the appearance of sin, it don't count. For those who keep tabs. -

those are really a lot of questions and far too many to answer since there are so many varables. As a Christian our heats should be to honor the Lord in all we do. Every aspect of our lives should be set on Him. If we do this then we will be walking by the Spirit and not the letter. -

Posting on the Baptist Board should have been on there...On the Sabbath ;)
-
Not the sabbath, but 'day of worship.' But then it would be almost a guarantee that a few will say it's alright to post prayer requests or praises or inspirational stories, but not topics on sports, recipes, or news events, et al. People get so funny with idea of precision as to how things ought to be.
