Wow,
Imagine.. it is inappropriate to give away Jesus dolls to needy kids for Christmas....
That is why the marines have rejected the dolls for the toys for tots program..
The reason... It might offend Muslims and Jews.
Why would a Jew or Muslim accept any CHRISTmas presents anyway.
"Oh, we'll take your presents, but don't tell us about what Christmas is about"
No wonder this Country is going to Hell in a handbasket!

"Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female," - Deuteronomy 4:16
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." - Exodus 20:4
"Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device." - Acts 17:29 -
Yeah, we don't want to tell needy kids about Jesus...
I can't believe a Christian would have a problem with this...
But then again this is BB... I should have expected it!
The dolls are not to be worshipped but are a toy that quotes bible verses and sings Jesus loves me. -
Something as clever as giving away dolls with a message compared to the stuff so many undulge in. No wonder they used to say if Jesus returned now the fundamentalists would be first in line to crucify Him again.
God help us!
Cheers,
Jim -
The Marines are in a position where, as part of the federal government, they could really not distribute the dolls regardless of what their feelings or intent may have been.
The aclu would have been screaming bloody murder and the Marines would get their hand slapped pretty hard. It might even cause the end of this worthy charity because it revolves around CHRISTmas. -
The article says, “As a government entity, Marines "don't profess one religion over another," Grein said Tuesday. "We can't take a chance on sending a talking Jesus doll to a Jewish family or a Muslim family."
I hate to point this out, but by handing out toys at Christmas, they are already promoting that holiday.
Would they hand out something for Ramadan?
I would not be offended if they did for the needy. But I wouldn't accept it for my kids because I am not Muslim...
Why would a Muslim be offended if they accept the toys for Christmas? -

Won't it be fun for the little tikes when they can have Buzz Lightyear and Jesus Christ face off or have Spiderman spin a web on him or have Cartman tell Jesus to respect his authoritah? Won't it be swell to put Jesus under a heathen Christmass tree and then the little child being so excited because he got a Jesus for Christmass? If you want to tell needy kids about Jesus, preach it. If you want to give them Jesus, give them a Holy Bible so they can have the true Word of God, not some cheap piece of plastic.
The company that makes merchandise of Jesus in this instance, is owned by a Catholic and a Jew creating a doll for a character that they are either opposed to or understand very little about. Christians taking a stand for a Jew who can't give away his Jesus merchandise because Jews or Muslims might be offended? What a mess.
I don't think I've ever encountered a group of Christians as vitriolic and as opposed to scripture as many of the folks on this board and I'm doing my best not to respond to all of the personal attacks. However, if you disagree with me, wouldn't a Christian response be to say I disagree and here is the scripture that I would use to back up my beliefs? Perhaps then, I might learn from you. Otherwise your statements and opinions that are not founded in scripture and typically addressed towards the messenger rather than the message are just as empty and meaningless as an unbeliever's statements.
Rather than make an argument, you pose the suggestion that fundamentalists would crucify Christ if he returned, apparently because they take His Word seriously? These words are without foundation and are quite foolish. -
OK, I disagree with you,
Mark 16:15
(15) He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation."
Even if it is by pushing a button to let a doll speak.
It is just another way of getting the Gospel out...
I guess what bothers me the most is not whether or not the doll is appropriate, but that America has become so "Jesus afraid" and we don't want to offend anyone, so we even try to sanitize Christmas by keeping Jesus out...
This is a symptom of a bigger problem....\
Sin.

It's sad but true, but we as Christians still have alot of work to do. Souls to convert, people to win over to Christ.
The Toys for Tots program, while good, isn't about the Christmas we know as Christians, it's about the Presents and Time off from work holiday the others have come to love. :tear:
Sad...

Another quote by Mr. Grein:
"We can't take a chance on sending a talking Jesus doll to a Jewish family or a Muslim family," Grein said Tuesday. "Kids want a gift for the holiday season that is fun."
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,229395,00.html
Well that about says it all... Jesus is no fun...
Sounds like Mr Grinch...er Grein... needs a dose of Good Ol' fashioned Christianity. -
I can understand the logic behind the decision.
I'm not sold on the idea of a Jesus doll anyway. -
OK, I can understand the decision... I don't agree with it... but I understand their way of thinking.
BUT... Don't you think it is ironic that the whole reason behind the season is the birth of Jesus, but yet they don't want to recognize Him at all?
They will pass out presents... why?
Because needy kids need presents...
Because it is Christmas... just let's not mention Jesus.
It is just another sign that we are a post Christian nation. -
My anual message... The reason for the season. Peace on earth and good will toward man.
Now I vote we should take up a collection and donate all the Jesus dolls we can afford. -
Personally, I really don't like the idea of a "Jesus doll", but I don't see why they couldn't just accept the dolls and then if someone wanted to give one to their child they could do so. They wouldn't be forced to do so.
-
It looks like they will accept the Jesus Doll...
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,230039,00.html
Now, the question, how many people will accept Jesus Christ? Let's pray that this doll will reach many and will help convert many to Christ.
Jamie -
After starting this thread on BB, I emailed the Marines, the President, and the company that was going to donate the dolls.
In the email to the company, I told them if no one else would give them out, our church would. I didn't expect to hear anything from them, especially after the Marines posted that they will now take them and give them to appropriate people.
This past Wed. after church, I had a message on my answering machine from the company wanting to donate 96 dolls to our church to give away! Of course we have to pay shipping and handling of around $160.
When I shared this need of $160 with the congregation this morning it sounded like an auction... people everywhere saying, "I'll give $25.", "I'll give $20" We raised enough to exactly cover the cost. No more, no less. Ain't God good!!!
Soooo... 96 children in and around Petersburg, WV will receive a Jesus Doll that quotes scripture. For some of these children this may be the only scripture they have ever heard!!
Now, I know since this is BB, I will probably get called a heretic, liberal, blasphemer, or worse.... But go ahead and flame me. We will sort it out in Heaven.. And who knows, there may be a child or two there because we cared enough to share with them a gift at CHRISTmas. -
God says His Word will not come back void.

Hey! this is a good idea!!!!
I think TinyTim has given me my big break in business!
I am going to have:
Adam dolls
Seth dolls
Noah dolls
Abraham dolls
Lot dolls
Isaac dolls
Jacob dolls
Joseph dolls
Moses dolls
Aaron dolls
Gideon dolls
Daniel dolls
David dolls
Solomon dolls
Jeremiah dolls
Isaiah dolls
Ezekiel dolls
Elisha dolls
Elijah dolls
Amos dolls
Micah dolls...
I will have an action figure doll for EVERY Old Testament character in the Bible!
I will introduce a different one each year. This will last me quite a while and should be very lucrative. I will patent the enitre list of Bible characters so that when I run out of OT characters, I will move into the NT. And right along with them I can have all the women of the Bible also!!!!
What a concept! I will be set for life!!!
Thanks a lot Tim!!! What a guy!!!
Now THIS is what I call Christian brothers helping out their fellow Brother in Christ. -
That oughta get a few people fired up!!
Regards to you, Jim - haven't heard from you in a while. I trust that all is well up there,
BiR
