Pretty sure Trump took away Brennan's clearance because he was the one responsible for starting the collision investigation based on a false FISA warrant.

In any event, how does taking away Brennan's security clearance stop Brennan from criticizing Trump in public?

Because Trump is a petty, petty little man. Trump, like a lot of his hadcore followers, doesn’t care if something doesn’t help him as long as he thinks it’s a thumb in the eye of someone else he thinks should be knocked down a peg or two.

 

I'd say a petty man is someone who thinks they know the motivations of someone they have never met and is only looking to paint a political enemy in the worst possible light.
