Does anyone know anything about the background of John Hagee? A friend of mine told me he used to be an independent Baptist preacher. Is there any truth to this? Also what does he believe? What type of pentecostal / charismatic is he?

I am not sure about his overall background. He is charismatic and he is hyper Dispensational and believes there are 2 differant plans of Salavtion for Jews and Gentiles. In short he is a heretic.

His bio lists no indication he was a Baptist, though I suppose it's possible; he says he received his theological training from Southwestern Bible Institute (which is now Southwestern Assemblies of God University) and an honorary doctorate from Oral Roberts University (nondenominational -- though Roberts came from the Assemblies of God -- and charismatic.)

I think we've established that, whatever John Hagee is, he's not a Baptist, so this is going to the Other Religions Forum. -
Since this thread has been moved, it has been pointed out to me that Oral Roberts a pastor with the Pentecostal Holiness Church and later became a Methodist.
