Why not? What gives you the right to take one portion of his example literally, but not the whole thing? Is this yet another example of how you must cherry-pick scriptures to support KS? You only take the parts that support your theology, but you reject the rest as figurative?

But he makes a direct comparison to a race where only one person wins. He even goes to the trouble of saying only one person wins. Why would he say one person if it wasn't important? Why would he specify one person if he didn't MEAN one person?

So obviously it must mean only one person wins and enjoys kingdom salvation. Why only one person? What happens to the rest?

You really think that Paul cares what those others think of him if he is preaching the Truth of Scripture? He says he doesn't want to be a castaway after he has preached to them. He doesn't want to say the right things, but not do the right things and be disqualified. He's talking about the race. He doesn't want to be a loser at the end of the race. He wants to be a winner. People don't determine that. The Judge determines that.

But Paul says there is only one winner. If there is only one winner and Paul is more likely to win than we are, then why are we bothering to run the race at all?

I don't think you read my post.

Each individual runs their own individual race. Each race has the potential to have a winner. But winning is not a guarantee.

That doesn't make sense. A race with one runner is a guaranteed win. So if we all run individual races, we're all guaranteed to win.

So either winning is a guarantee, or we run against others, and only one person wins. Who is that person, and what happens to the rest of us? I'm guessing Paul is the winner. After all, how many of us have contributed so many books to the NT? No point in running since the winner is a given.

I suppose that would be a consideration. So what are the rules? Support your answer with scripture.

Thanks. I know. But what I stated wasn't opinion at all. It is the teaching of Scritpure.

Scripture? It's the definition of the word. It is the opposite of condemnation. I recommend any entry level theology book. Charles Hodges book on justification is very good on this subject.

It appears difficult to maintain a position with scripture. Explaining the definition should include the passage and possibley the original language as well as other passages to back it up. Refering others to resources is not making a case for your position.

Maybe in your mind that is the case, but that doesn't make it so. And I would disagree that Scripture supports your teaching!

I think it's a good mix. Have you ever participated in a sword drill?

Really guys, after four pages I don't know what this thread is about. It seems that you guys have a particular take on doctrine that I am not familiar with. Perhaps you could just explain your view from scripture and the rest of us could be enlightened. Repeated demands for scripture followed by disputes as to the definition of the words in the scripture seems futile and probably falls under the category of "wrangling over words" that Paul warns against.

I have to admit I have never do that before :).

As far as studying out what I believe if you are interested I would be more than happy to point you to some resource material that will go much further into Scriptural depth on the matter. Just give me a PM and I'll send them your way.

No thanks. A brief summary of your position posted in your own words on BaptistBoard would be more than sufficient.

Basically what we believe is that you are saved by grace through faith apart from works to receive the free gift of everlasting life. The Holy Spirit takes your dead spirit and makes it alive.

We believe that starts a journey called the race of the faith where you are to die to self and allow the manifested life of Christ to be lived out through your members.

We believe that saved individuals will be held accountable for what they have done whether good or bad in this body and that these rewards are for kingdom purposes.

We believe that the road to destruction is broad and many there be that find it and the road to life is narrow and few there be that find it. We believe this is a warning to believers and has to do with life in the coming age which is the 1,000-year reign of Christ.

We believe Scripture teaches there will be those that rule and reign with Christ and there will be those that do not and are sent to outer darkness for the duration of the kingdom.

After the 1,000-year kingdom the tears will be wiped away and we will move out into eternity to do whatever it is that God has for us to do in the endless ages.

That is a very brief description of what we believe.

The gospel according to Jason Jump.

"1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

The gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."

I'm sorry. I don't believe we have met. You want to give us all your name?

And you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but your opinion is not fact.

    Fascinating gospel.

Hey everyone, I've got good news! There's going to be a 1,000 year kingdom and most of you will be spending that time in outer darkness! In fact, according to one in our ranks, most of you will be spending that 1,000 years in hell! Isn't that good news, or what?
