Key West Commercial

I just don't think I've ever seen a city do this.
Then you don't know much about Key West. It's like Mecca for gay people. It has the largest lesbi@n festival that I've ever heard of every year - it's called WomenFest.
I have a childhood friend who lives there and she is heavily involved in all things lesbi@n and her FB page depresses me every time I go there.

Scarlett I had heard a long time ago about how there was a big gay scene down there. And it's like that in a lot of cities. I've just never seen one come and advertise it.
I lived in Key West for about two years in the early 90s. Ask your friend if she knows where Pepe's is. I lived about a block away.
Key West's three big income generators then, as now, were alcohol, fishing, and homosexual tourism.
I loved living there at the time, but you do have to have a very thick skin to put up with some of the things that go on there.
Even back then, I always wondered why on Earth people with children would live there.
I'm not gay and I don't drink, but I do love to fish, so we usually end up in Key West once or twice a year. It's good to know where the places to stay away from are. I've been back once or twice for Meeting of the Minds, too.

One thing I will say, the commercial was truthful. They were "out" before it was "in" -- assuming it is actually "in" now.

With this new brandishing, I wouldn't be surprised if some natural disaster didn't come along and just really ruin the place for any night life or tourism. God help us.

I'd be surprised. God doesn't wipe places out based on our perception of evil.
It is a wicked place, but a lot more wickedness than this goes unpunished.

Ah, nothing new here, that place has been debauched for decades. I'd love to experience some of the fishing down there though, i.e. Snapper, Yellowfin, Blackfin tuna Going to Erie (Put-in Bay for Walleye, probably just as debauched) this year though. Maybe another year for the Keys.
But yeah, it is stuck out there for a hurricane to come along and wipe them all out, aren't they?

I was there in '92 when Andrew hit. My sister just happened to be working there with her band and we were staying together. Everybody told us to get out and we didn't listen. Growing up in L.A., I was used to hurricanes and figured we'd just go down to Captain Tony's or the Green Parrot and ride it out.
The more people told me to leave, the more steadfast I decided to stay. I figured it would be an adventure. Finally, after looking at the latest forecast, I realized that maybe I made a mistake and should have taken good advice.
The problem is that, by that time, they closed the highway and we were stuck. My sister was furious with me for making her stay, but I put on a brave face and told her that people survive far worse things every day and I joked, "Don't worry. We've got at least a 20% chance of survival." She was not amused.
So we boarded up the windows, turned up the music, broke out the rum and partied.
The highways being closed actually probably ended up saving our lives. If we had left when I changed my mind and wanted to go, we probably would have been right around Homestead when it hit and Homestead, as you may know, took the brunt of it and was more or less wiped off the map.
A year after that, I repented, received Christ, and got married. I haven't been that "adventurous" since, thank goodness.
I am surprised....there is no mention of the fishing.
Andrew was an awesome storm, it traveled all the way across the peninsula. So, did you get scared during the brunt of it? Did you ever think you were going to get blown away or drown?
Did you mean L.A. or LA? I didn't know Los Angeles was prone to hurricanes.
Ironically, Key West only got a glancing blow from Andrew. Key West was supposed to get the brunt of it, but then, it veered to the East. To be honest, I've been in worse storms in other places I've lived.
