It's just a mantra. Doesn't have to be true. Doesn't have to make sense.

Kinda like the "don't shoot" baloney that otherwise smart people are using.

Killed for resisting arrest, arguing with cops and escalating the confrontation between him and the cops for breaking the same law for the tenth time.

Last night in a major city close to where I live a driver ran over the feet of two protesters blocking the street. As of now, the cops can't locate the car or driver.

As for don'shoot.....tell them, "pants up...don't loot!" See the look on their face.

I would say he died because HE escalated the confrontation by resisting arrest.

This man was not killed for anything. He wasn't killed for cigarettes, he wasn't killed for resisting arrest.

He died while resisting arrest. Those are two different things. Prepositions change the entire context and say completely different things.

He died because he was choked. He was alive and breathing just fine before he was choked.

Why did he resist arrest? Why did he refuse to follow the orders of the police officers? Why did he keep fighting and resisting while being subdued by the police officers? Had he stopped resisting the officers would have relaxed their stance and been allowed to quickly hand cuff him and bring him to his feet. But, he, of his own free will, chose to resist. He died because he was stupid. Whether, black or white, pink or purple, the police would have used the same tactics and rightfully so.

You let someone start choking you and see how you respond.

Why on earth would he have trusted them to relax their stance and stop choking him when they weren't supposed to be choking him in the first place?

He died because he was murdered.

He wouldn't have been choked had he been cooperative.

So says white privilege that hasn't experienced what he had. This is a free country. He wasn't called to "cooperate" with anything as he wasn't breaking any law.

The slave days are passed. He didn't have to cooperate with them putting their hands on him when he hadn't done anything any more than you as a woman would have to sit back and cooperate as they put their hands on your privates just because they think they had you between a rock and a hard place for something they think you did.

As a general rule, nothing that white people do gets them shot by law enforcement.
Not walking around in a big box store with semi-automatic weapons (though standing in one with an air rifle gets you killed if you’re black); not assaulting two officers, even in the St. Louis area, a mere five days after Mike Brown was killed; not pointing a loaded weapon at three officers and demanding that they—the police—”drop their f****** guns;” not committing mass murder in a movie theatre before finally being taken alive; not proceeding in the wake of that event to walk around the same town in which it happened carrying a shotgun; and not killing a cop so as to spark a “revolution,” and then leading others on a two month chase through the woods before being arrested with only a few scratches.

So no, he shouldn't have cooperated if he hadn't done anything wrong.

If it was a cop, I would have stopped resisting.

Wait, if it was a cop, I would not have resisted to begin with.

Even my good friend, Crabby - who is a liberal realizes he was breaking a law. -
A law that he had broken dozens of times.

and with that, I shall take Rev Mitchells advice!

So says the man in the same category as Rush, Sean, Al and Jesse when it comes to race baiting. You seem to only be on here to perpetuate neo-conservative political stereotypes about anyone not in the majority.

Have you had the same life experience with police officers that Eric Garner had Salty? White privilege tells us that the police are those nice guys who get little old ladies cats out of trees. That's not the experience that a lot of black people have had with the police.

So while your perspective says "it's a cop, don't resist", perhaps his based in his experiences said "don't let them touch you" because this is the way slaves were treated by slave masters or this is how other black men have ended up dead. So as much as white people have tried to emasculate the black male, at some point they are going to stand up and fight back against an abusive system that marginalizes their lives.

But as I said before, this video shows the entire world just how black people are treated in this country. The genie is out of the bottle and it won't be going back in.

White privilege wouldn't have to resist as the cop wouldn't have done to a white person what he did to Eric Garner. He jumped on him and choked him like an animal because that's what, in the words of lots of cops, is in the "urban jungle"

The lives of white people haven't been marginalized by the authority that the white majority put in place. So no, you wouldn't have had to resist as it wouldn't have happened.

The guy in Tennessee lost his mind and tried that on a white man and was immediately FIRED.

He may have broken it several times. He was breaking it on that day that they came up to him. And if , as the young man and others who were recording said, he had just broken up a fight and the police said they saw him selling cigarettes, then they would have had seen the fight too. Why didn't they help break up the fight?

White privilege tends to stick together because it must protect it's position of authority.

RevMitchell, I am quoting you post, as a reminder for me. Appears others have not read it.

And I'll repeat what I said to that the first time: White privilege tends to stick together because it must protect it's position of authority.

All the whites are out to get all the other groups. Their privilege is being threatened so they have instructed the police to kill innocent minority criminals in order to protect their status. All the police are in on the conspiracy.

This is where you miss the truth. He was selling illegal cigarettes and had been arrested for the same crime before which makes him a habitual criminal.
