The Apostle Paul wrote the Corinthian church saying, ". . . And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, [even] as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able [to bear it], neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? . . ." -- 1 Corinthians 3:1-3.

Now the writer to the Hebrews wrote, ". . . For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. . . ." -- Hebrews 5:12.

Now the following is a short and brief outline of the milk of the word (based on Hebrews 6:1-2).

    * The principles of the doctrine of Christ. 2 John 1:9.
    * The foundation of repentance from dead works. Ephesians 2:8-9.
    * Of faith toward God, Hebrews 11:6.
    * Of the doctrine of baptisms. Matthew 3:11-12
    * Of laying on of hands. Acts 6:1-6.
    * Of resurrection of the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:13.
    * Of eternal judgment. Revelation 20:11-15.

    What are you looking for?

    This is a debate forum.
Do you have a debate subject or are you simply stating facts or what?

Presumably the "milk" is perhaps salvation doctrine - being saved by grace though faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Also presumably the "meat" perhaps would be sanctification, walking in the Spirit, producing the fruit of the Spirit, things to come...

    Thanks

And you do not agree on what the milk of the word is? That is one reason there is debate on the word of God.

I gave the most probable definition of the "milk" - that which brought us into the kingdom of God at our birth - the gospel message.

Most of the well seasoned brethren on here have weaned themselves from the milk of the word and have their teeth fully in the word of God... Some brethren are Prime Rib but I'm Filet Mignon... Brother Glen:D

In regards to milk, the writer of Hebrews says of them, ". . . Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit. . . ."

And the doctrine that was introduced concerned whether someone could lose their salvation. This is an "advanced" doctrine for the mature Christian to consider.

What makes you think the teaching one can be saved then lost was being taught?

Regarding the principles of the doctrine of Christ the Apostle Paul wrote, ". . . But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. . . ." -- 2 Corinthians 11:3. Who is the Christ that the lost are to believe in that is God's Christ?

There is simplicity, there is difficulty...

2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

The reference was to Hebrews 6, if my memory serves. Immediately after saying "leaving the principles of Christ....and this we will do if God perhaps...." the author answers their question concerning whether someone who once tasted Holy Spirit and then fell away, could be brought back to repentence.

Says that is impossible. But says nothing about being saved.

A Call to Maturity Hebrews 6:4-6
4It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age— 6(AND THEN) have fallen away—to be (RESTORED AGAIN) to repentance, because they themselves are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to open shame.

It is clear this is a warning and therefore implies it is possible, otherwise why state it ? No word of scripture is written in vain.
