Thoughts on firing the Diamondback's manager of 4 days when his sordid moral failures were brought to light.
To we hire managers to "manage" or do their personal moral values/actions come into play?

At Alabama last year it was obvious that morals came into play. Rightly so, IMHO, at least at college level.
Pros? I don't know. -
College level for sure. Pros not so much. But, if they mess up in a bad way and it is very public, I guess it can make a big difference.

This was financial problems (repossessing vehicles during a game!), alcohol and abuse of both his former and present wife.

I caught this link on the Wolrd Magazine blog- it's a story on how executives who cheat their stockholders usually cheat on their wives as well.

May not be directly related to the Wally Backman issue that spurred this thread, but it is an interesting commentary on how personal character can affect your business life as well. -
The little secert that isn't being talked about is gambling. There are some "reports" (grain of salt being added) that Backman lost his money through gambling. For me that would have to be the case to justify doing what they did to him. The wife "stuff" went down four years ago and was part of a messy divorce. Though not a long time, it is long enough to see if he had grown up and learned his lesson. Named minor league manager of the year last year, he seemed to be on his way to recovery so to speak. But that is all trumped in my opinion if he was gambling. Desperate people will do desperate things, and a broke gambler one desperate fella

I think moral managers would be great. Of course some moral players who appreciated the blessings the LORD gave them would be nice also.

It is good to see the baseball and football players talk about their faith on the field and let the fans know how much they love the Lord. That is a good influence on other teammates not to mention their fans.

In college morals should come in to play, pro is a little differnt since its all about the money anyway. I would think though that it is in the best intrest of an orginazation to fire because of moral problems.

No.
However a manager with morals is not a bad thing. It's just not necessary. I'm too young to know...did Tom Landry have morals? From seein clips of him he sure was classy. Suit and tie...these days NFL coaches kinda look like overweight bums (due to the dress code now in force). -

Yeah he probably did have morals. Like I said he sure seemed classy from the clips I've seen of him.

I agree, Coach Landry did have class. One of the players Tom Landry coached that showed class, was Roger Staubach.
