Except, Obama did not say
and all other Americans.
You read your own meaning into what he said---if he really meant all other Americans, he should have said so, no matter what the platform, but he didn't ---- being precise ought to be a two-way street.
Um, that was my quote, not Senator Obamas. OKay, Just to satisfy you I will clarify my own point of view.
I will, even with your ellipsis, stand shoulder to shoulder with Senator Obama and Arab or Pakistani Americans, should anyone try to deprive them of their constitutional rights simply because of their national, ethnic, racial, or religious background. If not, we might as well throw our beloved constitution in the rubbish heap.
Anything can be taken out of context.
Perhaps I should a thread called "Bible supports party lifestyle!"
In your view, Roger, just for clarificatoin, does the term and all other Americans include those who are here illegally, everyone whose feet are on American soil, or just American citizens?
If so, what about the 19 highjackers, would they have been included in the phrase and all other Americans?
Neither one of us has a way to know the true meaning of his words, but to me, the context in which his words were spoken make the meaning perfectly clear and I agree with the misquote of the word "Muslims" as being the correct interpretation, even though I corrected the actual statement in my signature.
Usually in debating, the person who challenges something is the one to research it and look it up, however, I have been a gentlewoman and done the research myself and corrected it.
At least give me that.
I will credit you for changing it, but it was my research that opened this thread. You challenged my research so it became your responsibility to prove that my research was flawed. Instead your research supported ny original contention that you were using a misquote. To be fair the quote in your signature should give the whole statement so everyone can make their own decision. It should not be slanted to your view of what he said. The whole quote, in context, is something all American citizens should be able to say.
Mea culpa - I should have said American citizens. I did not think I needed to since Sen Obama uses the word "citizenship" in the full quote. I apologise for the oversight.
Roger, if I were posting what you are, Ladyeagle would edit my postings, threaten to try and have me banned and shut down the thread.
It's called having a double standard.
If one agrees with her view about Obama they can do no wrong.
If they disagree, look out!
Just my opinion.
Partly because this in the only place a man is attacked because of his middle name and where his mommy sent him to school when he was five, or because his first name sounds like Osama, or undocumented quotes are posted with checking them out first.
I am amazed that no one posting on these sensationalists threads supports me when I attack Obama on substance threads.
Its much easier to deflect with out of context misquotes than to deal with real issues.
Obama has so much to disqualify him in the Christ filled mind, I'm amazed at those that defend him.
Yes, our side should provide accurate assessments of him, but the mindless defense of him from people of the Word, is unconscionable.
Let the readers and viewers decide for themselves.
To me, the quality of the video [on another thread], combined with a known internet track record (not referring to the Baptist Board here) of ripping his comments out of context as as scare tactic, convince me that this video is more of the same. I am not going to take the hours required to read his books and find the comments. The track record of this kind of tactic is all I need.
I don't know how this thread got on the topic of the video of another thread, maybe it is my fault.
Anyway, it is obvious just by looking at it and its "stop/start" nature.
This is my last post on the video. You know my view on it. Let each viewer decide.
This does not change the issue of this thread. At least one false quote has been made and later corrected. The "fear Obama" quotes need researched before they can be accepted.
I think it is interesting that none of these "Fear Obama" internet sources give the page numbers where they get the quotes. Proper, ethical sourcing requires more than just a vague reference to a boo.
I was in a bookstore today and picked up "Audacity of Hope." I only knew page 261 so I turned there. The quote in question about standing with Arab and Pakistani Americans should things get ugly was much longer than even the corrected quote. It was worth spending 12.50 euro (20 dollars) to prove a point, but I will put my paraphrase here open to anyone's scrutiny.
Obama was saying that after 9/11 he saw Arab and Pakistani Americans in fear of their constitutional rights being taken away just because of their national origin. He said that they needed to know that they as citizens could take their citizenship seriously. He recalled that the US immigration record had its dark side pointing out the Japanese internments. After all that he made the comment about standing with these citizens should their rights be threatened.
It was actually a very inspiring paragraph. I agree with Sen Obama 100%, I will stand with any fellow American citizens whose lives or liberties were in danger because of their nationality, ethnicity, or religion.
In context, this is a powerful statement on the importance of constitutional.
liberties.
This is an example I why I think the pat internet quotes need more research.
How true. I meant to get back to the thread, but it slipped my mind. Obama's comments are 100% on target, and only those who will use any tactic to destroy him would think otherwise. Especially those who have not even read the comments or their context.
It is a straw man argument. No ones liberties are threatened. And there is no reason to suspect such. But of course those with an agenda must create a false attack in order to gain sympathy for their cause. This they have learned well from libs, Queens of victimhood.
And since I know you will ask their agenda is to the US to capitulate to
their demands for special time off work for their different false religious activities, not to have to remove facial coverings for photos of state and federal documents etc.
I wonder if Obama will be standing with them when they riot in our streets because someone created a cartoon of Mohamed. Or treated the Koran in a way "they" deemed disrespectful. Quite frankly the real threat here is their way of life that has created quite a bit of problems for Europe and is antithetical to freedom of speech in this country. I wonder if that is when Obama will stand with them.
Europe may tolerate it. But America will not to be sure.
