On the How to have godly, edifying debate thread, thisnumbersdisconnected said that Murphy's Law "applies to debate online." I agree.

For example, when you have spent several posts on a whole page preparing for a devastating conclusion that will destroy your opponent's point, that is just when the thread will be closed!

When you decide to start a thread aimed at a particular person, that person will then be banned, enter the hospital, or move to China where he can't get on the Internet very often. :BangHead:

When you spend a lot of time typing out a long response and your wireless connection cuts out momentarily just as you hit submit and you lose the entire post.

If you start a thread on transubstantiation thinking you have that subject down pat, someone will join the BB who has just finished his PhD dissertation on the subject and blow you away. :tonofbricks:

Just when I'm about to be resolute and not quit a thread just because I'm losing the debate or people are not being nice to me, that's when the thread will be cancelled.

Or, after you've resolved not to participate in a thread, but you catch a post that *must* be addressed -- the thread will be closed just before you reply....

You start a thread on "Migratory Habits of the Baptist Bird" and it turns into a Calvinist/Arminian thread on the first page and goes for 15 more in that direction before being shut down.

That's because the migrations of Baptist Birds is predetermined, but then you'll have a free willer come in and say it's all by chance.

When you read something truly "heretical" (word used properly) and you don't have time to respond. And then, when searching for it the next morning, you come across a fun thread and get side-tracked and post here instead.

Back to the Calvinist-Arminian food fight . .

Someone from your previous home church joins the BB and you're sure you'll have good fellowship--until you find out he's the guy who knows where your skeletons are buried.

For days you've been thinking about "Baptists Who Get their Nose Pierced," so you finally start a thread on it, only to see that someone else started "Baptists Getting their Noses Pierced" yesterday, and it's on page 5.
