It is a very narrow path to Heaven and takes constant vigilance to insure that you stay on that path.

I'm a bit confused here, as this is about the last thing I expect to hear from a Baptist preacher. Do you believe in the doctrine of Eternal Security?

Is not there a faint hint that this whole thing is a set up? A third grader who had been to Sunday School would not write a statement like "pray to make sure I get to heaven."

My 7 year old, who got saved 2 months ago (btw, I was with him when it happened and it was awesome :godisgood:) ,wouldn't say such a thing.

So, whether it's the prayer statement, or the cockamamie avatar pic story, or the ridiculous statements in the OP, something doesn't feel right.

Each one of us has broken God's commandments. Prayer is both a command from God and privilege. It is His way for us to receive things, experience fullness of joy, and obtain relief from trouble, anxiety and care. Answered prayer is an unanswerable argument against unbelief and skepticism. It is the only way to have Holy Spirit power and it is the only way to be saved. Fellowship with God requires constant prayer and daily Bible reading. The Bible says that nobody is good enough to get into heaven. The way I see it is that we have two choices to make. Keep on pursuing Satan and the fleeting pleasures of sin; or,
humble yourself under the mighty hand of God. Further the kingdom of God with power from above. In due time, He will lift you up to places you never even knew existed.

Yes, definitely. Whether it's the cockamamie avatar pic story to most things he's said, something smell fishy. My 7 year old, who got saved 2 months ago (btw, I was with him when it happened and it was awesome :godisgood:) ,wouldn't say such a thing.
I think that is great, and speaking of parenting, what a tribute to you and your spouse. Bravo! I can think of no greater compliment to a parent than a child coming to salvation.

You need to reread the New Testement. You have so many errors in that post, but I will point out two. Fellowship with God and salvation are not the same thing. Salvation is eternal, and depends on faith and grace in Jesus Christ, and nothing else. Some of the elements of a close walk with the Lord are prayer and Bible reading, but much more than that, you know, things like obeying his commandments, loving others as yourself. It is a 24 hour a day guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is not a list of dos and donts. You said we have two choices to make. Either pursue Satan or humble yourself before God. You seem to leave out the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, faith in Him to save and believe that He is the Son of God and was raised from the dead. In due time He will lift me up to places I did not know existed?? First of all, God is outside of time. All Christians do know the place where we will spend eternity. It is called in the presence of the Lord. By the way, do you really think you make the choice to follow the Lord in your fallen state, or put your faith in Jesus Christ? He chose you, you did not choose Him.

Let us all learn to wash the feet of those God has made us in authority over, and learn to earn the respect of the same.

Amen. I wish I could go back and raise my son all over again with the Godly knowledge I have now. Although he did grow up to be a fine young man, it was by the grace of God and not my parenting skills.

Let me give you an example of "straying off the path to Heaven". This is my cousin http://www.acousticguitarcommunity.com/profile/LarryButler He was once a God fearing Baptist. He was in the Front Pew of every service shouting right along with Jesus. Now he plays the the devils music in hole in the wall dens of debauchery. He sings secular music about drinking and death. He is a perfect example of losing your path to Heaven. The righteous do not increase the power of God and the wicked do not take away from the power of God. God has existed from eternity past without my love and He will continue enthroned in power and glory and might long after the vilest blasphemer is rotting in hell. God will be God forever regardless of what a man does or does not do. He is self-sustained in no way relying on man. We can help or hurt a man like us but we can't help or hurt God.

The more you post, the more I believe you have nothing to do with the Baptist faith. No saved person loses their path to heaven. He was either never saved, or will be drawn back to the Lord by the Holy Spirit. More than likely, in the state you describe, he was never saved. How does one lose something they never had?

This is a bedrock belief of Baptists. If you want to believe that a person can slip in and out of salvation, may I suggest you try a Church of Christ or Catholic board.

If any people of color or ethnic types ever wanted to attend our services, we would welcome them with open arms. However all of our services are in English.

What does that have to do with anything? All of our services are in English as well and we have Chinese, Japanese, Phillipino, Jamaicans, Italians, Russians, Norwegians, Germans, British, Irish, Australians, Puertericans, Mexicans, Guadamalians, Brazilians and I'm sure many others (these are just the ones who are my friends). Oh - I'm mistaken. We actually do have our services in another language than English because there are a great number of these people around and they just cannot learn the English language so we do provide them with interpretation. So I can't say that all of our services are only in English. Sorry.

But what makes you say "However all of our services are in English."? You mean you have no desire to assist those who wish to worship with you if they do not understand the English language well?

Sir, you are not a Baptist. You do not understand Biblical salvation but instead have more of a Catholic salvation belief. That we need to strive and strive to possibly, in due time, be saved? I'm sorry but that's not Biblical or Baptist in the least.

But it's like this, God gave us a great big apple, and He said don't touch it. He didn't say touch it once in a while; He didn't say take a nibble when you're hungry; He said don't touch it. Don't think about touching 'it, don't talk about touching it, don't think about talking about touching it.

Pastor Davis, why are you quoting from a PG-13 movie to defend not watching G/PG movies?

Hate to tell you but I married a man who played in a band, played secular music and played in bars as well! You know what? We also ministered to many and he was in ministry the entire time (not as a pastor at the time - that came later). Playing a guitar, playing country and blues and playing in a bar does not mean that anyone loses their path to heaven. NO one loses their path to heaven. I'm not sure what kind of Baptist you are but you are certainly not SBC trained.

Thank you very much, but any praise for that goes to God, not us. We just do the best we can with what we have and trust God to fill in where we fall short. We take no credit for what God has done. Never have, never will.
