My dad called me 2 weekends ago at college to tell me that he and my mom and sister have realized that the Baptist church we always went to is preaching a false gospel so they stopped going. He said they had been doing a lot of reading and found that the Calvinism doctrines of grace are the true definition of the gospel. He also said that anyone who does not know or believe any of the 5 points is unsaved/unregenerate. Or if you are unsure about how election works. And also if a person thinks that God will save someone who does not know or believe the 5 points then that person is unregenerate.
A few more things he told me are:
a church that is not preaching about election every week is not preaching the gospelthey are doing church at home because there are only 5 or 10 churches in the whole U.S.A. that preach the true gospel and do not tolerate false gospel
probably nobody at our old church is regenerate
thinking you have any choice in what happens in your life means you believe in works based salvation
if someone is not a 5 point Calvinist then they are an Arminian
tolerant Calvinists are unregenerate just like Arminians
Arminians can only be truly regenerate when they convert to 5 point Calvinism
I need to stop going to the church on campus
unless I can find a woman who believes this then they will not support me getting married in any way
I was very shocked when he told me all this but I told him I would read and pray about it. And while I can see that election is biblical I am not convinced we know exactly how it works or that understanding it is required for salvation. I do not think that their views are enough to overturn the simplicity of Romans 10:9 and Acts 16:31. They think that unless someone knows and believes in limited atonement and supralapsarianism then they are not saved but I do not see the bible saying that is necessary.
Now I don't know what to do so please pray for me. My life and future feels like it went from being bright and full of opportunity to dark and depressing. I have not gotten a lot of sleep and I wasn't able to hardly eat for a week. But I know that God does not change though no matter what we think.
My family converted to (hyper?)Calvinism and say I need to convert

Whoa, your folks have gone off the deep end. Especially, when they say only 5 or 10 churches in the whole U.S.A. that preach the true gospel and do not tolerate false gospel.

Is it too late to trade your parents in on new models? :D

If I hadn't read the first of the post I'd think you just found out you had terminal cancer. -
The true nature of cults, whether Mormonism, or Hyper-Calvinism, or whatever is exposed by your post. They pull away from sound teaching and isolate themselves, dismissing those who do not agree as unsaved or ignorant of truth and so forth. All those who assert, my way or the highway have closed their minds to the truth.

I would imagine that anyone who becomes disenchanted with their current camp may soon enough embrace what the perceive as the only alternative. It happened when I went from Arminian to Calvinist.
At the time, I needed something which seemed to have more firm footing (at least philosophically).
My point is that there's something they felt they needed, and they at least think they found it. I wouldn't sweat too much. God knows those who are His, pray for them and trust Him to work -
What makes them try top convert you? Don't they know that you're either predestined to be a hyper-calvinist, or you ain't?

As defined in the OP, it comes perilously close.

Be careful because those Calvinists really believe that God in love has predestined a multitude of condemned sinners to go from death to life.
There is no telling what those Calvinists will say next.
They might proclaim that Jesus is Lord.....be very careful....they are so tricky.
Just remember Jn.3:16 is in the bible, along with 2 Peter 3:9.....so that negates all those troublesome verses about election and predestination!
Keep in mind....Joel Osteen, Benny Hina, and such men do not believe those teachings either
Whatever you do.....do not study it out....being in college you are busy with your studies and such.
Maybe you could encourage your dad to join Baptistboard.....and then Van could help him out
He could explain in his own words what he believes, not that we doubt your testimony of it at all......;) -
