There have been many self imposed characteristics of Calvinists on this board that are nothing but a myth.
Being a Calvinist does not mean one is arrogant.
Being a Calvinist does not mean we admire and respect people like Paul Washer.
In fact, he is the most arrogant, self-centered person I ever saw walk in the doors of our church, and he will never return.
Being a Calvinist does not mean we think Arminians are lost or preaching a false Gospel.
Not all cals are arrogant. I list less than a handful on this board, (you, mexdeaf, ann, tom) but it is a well known problem among cals. So much so that even cals have had to face up to it and deal with it.
I think to a degree you are correct.
The mystery to me is why this issue and Bible versions stand out amongst hundreds of issues to generate so much heat.
I appreciate your comments.
It is ironic that in a thread I started years ago about Arminians I admire, some folks still believed I hated Arminians and that I thought they were lost. But I think it was pure evil on their part to say such things.
Well, it is certainly a watering-down of the Gospel. I believe in the full Gospel --no,not of the Pentecostal variety.
I understand the differences much better than you do based on the quality of your posts.
If you think that is a saved/lost divider, then why are you here?
I agree with your assessment above from beginning to end SN.
As to the OP, the accusation is much the same as the liberals tactic: when losing a debate liberals pull the race card. When an anti-cal is losing or simply starting a fight they pull the arrogant card. Frankly I've seen more arrogance and snotty attitudes stemming from the anti-cal side on BB than from the reformed side.
If you want to be a Calvinist, that is fine with me, you have a right to believe anything you want. But if folks try to teach others that Calvinism is what the scriptures teach, I am going to step in and say something, people should see an alternate point of view. Then they can make up their own minds what they believe the scriptures say.
Believe me, I get very tired of arguing with Calvinists.
This post is generally true, but the fact remains that Calvinists have a real reputation for being arrogant as the many different articles Rev Mitchell showed on that Google search.
Even Calvinists have admitted this is a common problem among Calvinists.
This guy is a Calvinist who thought it was an unfair criticism that Reformed believers are arrogant, until he happened to find out it was true.
