Las Vegas has produced nothing but parades since the first race there in 1998. However, Bruton Smith is going to be spending $300 million to upgrade the track, probably beginning after Sunday. One of the improvements is to change the track configuration, i.e. more banking, and that should make for better racing. But, Vegas has the same problem that Fontana does. The cars are too aero dependent and it mucks up the racing, turning it into a parade.
Rumor at one time was that once these upgrades happened, Vegas was going to get a 2nd date on the schedule. Considering that there were so many empty seats at Fontana last week, perhaps Nascar will discard the 2nd race at Fontana in favor of 2 visits to Las Vegas.
Better yet, work the schedule so that the Darlington race, at one time known as the Southern 500, goes back to Labor Day weekend. Trashing the Southern 500 for no good reason was, and still remains, a travesty.
