WHOSE interpretation? Seems to ME Sue is quoting GOD's word and not making up some mythical allegory!

Diane, there is a difference between the "word of God" and one's interpretation of it. We all read the scripture through a layer of bias. We should be gracious to other Christians that come to different conclusions on secondary doctrines, because NONE of us are going to get EVERYTHING correct, and I don't think we'd want Jesus to judge us on our errors the way we judge other people on theirs.

I beg to differ, Brian. I take scripture literally and therefore when someone says things like Genesis 1-11 are myths or allegories and not God telling us how He created the world and mankind.... that upsets me as a Christian and I will rebuke that person and try to show them, with OTHER scripture, how they are wrong.
I gave before the example of:

Regarding taking scripture literally, is "literalness" the determining factor in determining God's word from a faulty interpretation of God's word? There are places in scripture where people a passage more literally than you. If "literalness" means correct, then in those instances they are correct and you are wrong. Either that, or "literal" does not always mean "correct" - in either case we must be careful *how* and *why* we rebuke another Christian who disagrees with our interpretation. -
A good example of what Brian is getting at is this; I grew up on Theistic Evolution, and it made sense to me at the time. Hence, I have no problem with people who still adhere to Theistic evolution. This too is based on scripture, but it considers science to explain what is not clear in scripture.
I take the bible literally, but sometimes that includes allegory, sometimes poetry, sometimes parable. It is up to us to determine one from the other. We are nonetheless biblical in our understanding.

I am certainly able to make mistakes but I try to clear up any questions by going to other scripture for clarification, like I posted above.

Diana,
There are many places in the Scripture that symbolism is used. Are you the sole authority to decide everyplace that the Bible uses symbolism?
No, I don't necessary believe that the Genesis account of creation is symbolic, but there are those that do. If another Christian does choose to believe this, it is no reason for me or anybody else to pass judgment on them. -
If God's Word makes literal sense....seek no other since. God said He made earth. God said He made man. I believe it. God said He sent His only begotton Son to die for a lost world. I beleive it. If you're gonna question wheither or not once peice of scripture is acurate,then why not do it to everything, hmm? If you would like to question God's word on creation, why not question salvation too {or any other place in the Bible}? See were that gets you?! Yeah, some places are parables, and poetry, but that's were rightly dividing the truth comes in. Some is prophocy, law, poems, parables, but all inspired by God, and if you take a passage and unbiasbly {hey, did I just make a new word? ;) :D } study it you can come out with basicaly the same thing.
God said it, I beleive it, and THAT settles it.

God said it, that settles it period - whether anyone believes it or not!

</font>
I would certainly hope so! The ones who agree with me are the ones who know the Truth and who take God at His Word.
IMHO, you cannot believe God and creationism both. It's like serving two masters. You have bought into the devil's propaganda Joshua. </font>
Well my dear your attitude and theology has been captured exactly in Doonesbury. Amazing how this great social commentator understands your kind of attitude: http://doonesbury.msn.com/strip/dailydose/index.html -
