Norman Geisler An extensive independent investigation has exonerated Dr. Ergun Caner of all the false charges made against him by extreme Muslims and others and has been retained as a Professor at Liberty University. In spite of a few misstatements (which we all make and he has corrected), nothing has diminished his testimony and orthodoxy as one of the great Christian voices of our time. I totally support him.

Above is Norm Geisler's thoughts concerning Caner. This statement is very similar to John Ankerberg's views that Caner's testimony is "completely true."
What do these statements reveal about Christian apologetic ministries in America?
What do these statements reveal about Geisler and Ankerberg?
What do these statements reveal about some segments of Christianity in America?

Seriously? Can we move on beyond this stuff?
Listen what has been done is done. What is gained by this continued reprosecuting of a brother in Christ? -
Mind numbing.
I am at a complete loss to comprehend Norm Geisler's statement on facebook. -
This only somewhat surprises me.
What really shocked me was reading Geisler's description of "Extreme Calvinism" vs. "Moderate Calvinism." The obfuscation required for Geisler's position meshes well with the kind of statement indicated above. -
As one who trusted these guys (Geisler, Ankerberg), I am at a complete loss to comprehend their statements. I fear that I am losing my mind.

Being found guilty of a lesser offense is in no way an exoneration. Excellent point, Martin.

I suppose one could say that:
since Ergun Caner was not fired, and
since Ergun Caner did not resign, and
since Ergun Caner was offered another contract to teach, and
since Ergun Caner accepted the offer to remain on the faculty, and
since Ergun Caner only had a contract expire which was not renewed,
Ergun Caner was exonerated. -

It is not over -- not by a long shot.
Caner has not repented. He has not come forward and confessed his wrongdoings over the last 9 years.
That 'apology' is suspicious. It could very well be his 'apology' that he issued in Feb. which wasn't an apology. There he just glossed over things and indicated he may have slipped up on dates, names and places -- but not intentionally. Then, just as quickly that 'aplology' was removed.
Just a scant few days before Liberty's latest statement Ergun was explaining his innocence in the entire matter -- according to student in one of his classes. So I think his 'apology' is bogus.
If he apologized for all his lies he has to step forward in a public way and do so. His apology should include asking the forgiveness of bloggers who truthfully reported the facts. He also has to denounce his defenders such as Guthrie and Lumpkins. They are behaving disgracefully.
Every day that passes in which he has not come forward to rectify things shows me he isn't serious about the Christ he professes to know.
He has caused the Gentiles to profane the Name of Christ.
Pastor Falwell needs to deal honestly with the situation if indeed Ergun is a real member of his church. There needs to be church discipline.
Things should not go on the same old way.
Ergun Caner needs to stay out of pulpits and speaking venues for a long time -- with the exception of a speech admitting his deceitfulness.
His brother Emir needs to also step forward and confess his own sins in this whole ordeal. He covered for his brother and lied about himself too.
Liberty U and its connections needs to have a wake-up call regarding its shameful conduct throughout this mess. The world is watching. And need I say it -- the Lord is watching. -
Right on, Rippon.
Ankerberg and Geisler are not making it easier for Caner to apologize. With enablers like these guys, I doubt Caner will ever repent. -

Questioning the motives and character of these other men who have been found of no wrong doing is gossip and slander.
-
Wow! I've had an ephiphany! Caner should leave Liberty after his one year and move to Veritas Seminary. Then the Calvinists on this board will have the distinct pleasure of thinking even less of moderate calvinists than they already do. You heard it here first.

What is gained by trying to defend a "brother" who is a habitual liar?
Christian character would tell us to REBUKE such a person. Which is what is being done (except for the defenders of the indefensible).
(Then they stoop lower to report posts on this thread as "slander". Calling a liar a "liar" is not slander; it is factual.) -

First you need to provide evidence of anyone defending Caner. Opposing the way he is being "rebuked" is not defending him.
Second Slander is of those who are around him who are being tied to him and their character questioned.
Third. This board is not a mechanism of biblical rebuke. And rebuke is not the constant posting against him. Rebuke is to be done elsewhere not on Baptist Board. Childish
