Replace a few selected words and this could be a very contemporary article. In some says not much has changed, nor have we learned from history.
Nothing seems to change and we do not learn.

Who conquered the Holy Land? I thought for a moment you said Christians!
It seems to me that profane history confuses the Christian movement with the Church of Rome.
The true believers were still suffering persecution by that church and advancing in the upper rooms and sewers.

For example, the Inquisition was in 1184...as a method of exterminating heresy...Who were the heretics? "Canon Law was also organized, systematized, and restated so as to be in full accord with the absolute primatial power of the pope..." The era of absolute papacy, Lars P. Qualben, St. Olaf College.
The crusades of 1096, 1144 and 1187 were all advanced and headed by the pope. Thw Mendicant Monks came out of the crusades. The use of the rosary came into use in the 1100's, the idea coming from the defeated Muslims, also the demand for an annual confession arose through the crusades...all to do with Rome.
I think there is plenty of history supporting the fact that the Church of Rome led the crusades, and not the faithful believers of the New Testament churches.
