I have to admit, this is one for Bush and his crew. They test a bomb and we take 12,500 troops home. And if they test another bomb we'll take even more troops home. That will show um...

ROFL!
Of course I have been saying that we needed to take our speed bump soldiers out of harms way for over a decade . . .
No need of letting them just die to start a war . . . especially when those concerned citizens that are getting rich off of exploiting women and writing down bumper numbers so that the chi-coms can wipe out our troops in their sleep . . .
Oh well . . . maybe economic and world necessities will take better care of our troops than those concerned business men . . . and women.

Well, they wanted us to leave and we started to and now they don't. Sooooo fickle.

 :tongue3:
Ok, I'll crawl back into my hole, before someone nukes me!

North Korea is in such a state of poverty they are playing political games to get Western aid. The trouble is, if they get aid, their people will still be starving.
President Truman should have left General MacArthur in Korea and we would have remained there and had a victory. Oh how history comes back to bite us in the proverbial zone.
Cheers,

All we are saying is give peace a chance...

The referenced article is two years old, but not much has changed since then. There is talk of a new phaseout in the works though.
Excerpts -
"Now under consideration is a further reduction to a small token force or possibly a total withdrawal sometime after 2008. As a senior U.S. military officer, pointing to the U.S. commander in Korea, General B.B. Bell, said: "Bell's mission is to turn out the lights in South Korea."
* The U.S. Army and Air Force are stretched thin
* The South Koreans are able to defend themselves with minimal help from the U.S. if North Korea attacks.
* Anti-Americanism is rampant in Korea, starting with President Roh Moo Hyun.
* Seoul's posture toward North Korea borders on appeasement, compared with the hard line of the U.S. South Korea is tilting toward China, the potential rival of the U.S. in Asia. And South Koreans are ever more critical of Japan, the foremost ally of the U.S. in Asia."

We could have and we did until we quit supporting the CG on the ground . . .
The truth is we were tired of war . . . and we did not finish what had started.
It would have taken another year or two to get military production to produce a new generation of weapons . . . and the weapons systems that we faced outclassed us. The wepaons systems to replace our WW2 weapons were ready to be turned out . . . but, we were tired of war . . . we did not want to take the casualties that the next two - 4 years of war would bring us . . .
Not that I blame them - we took a lot of casualties. IMHO

At least for the next couple of years.
