    Anyone heard this song?

    I used to sing it with my Dad in the ORB church. I still sing it to this day. Very few people know it and even fewer sing it because it can be a hard tune.

    Chorus:
    Oh Heaven Sweet Heaven How I long for thee
    When will I ever get there

    I've got a father I long to see
    He's gone up there to wait for me
    Chorus

    I've got a mother I long to see
    She's gone up there to wait for me
    Chorus

    I've got a Savior I long to see
    He bought my ticket on Calvary
    Chorus

    If you get there before I do
    Tell all my loved ones I'm coming too
    Chorus...

    I never heard the one you mentioned but I used to lead this one in church... Wayfaring Stranger... Brother Glen

    1 I’m just a poor wayfaring stranger,
    I’m trav’ling through this world below;
    There is no sickness, toil, nor danger,
    In that bright world to which I go.
    I’m going there to see my father,
    I’m going there no more to roam;
    I’m just a going over Jordan,
    I’m just a going over home.

    2 I know dark clouds will gather o’er me,
    I know my pathway’s rough and steep;
    But golden fields lie out before me,
    Where weary eyes no more shall weep.
    I’m going there to see my mother,
    She said she’d meet me when I come;
    I’m just a going over Jordan,
    I’m just a going over home.

    3 I want to sing salvations story,
    In concert with the blood-washed band;
    I want to wear a crown of glory,
    When I get home to that good land.
    I’m going there to see my brothers,
    They passed before me one by one;
    I’m just a going over Jordan,
    I’m just a going over home.

    4 I’ll soon be free from every trial,
    This form will rest beneath the sod;
    I’ll drop the cross of self-denial,
    And enter in my home with God.
    I’m going there to see my Saviour,
    Who shed for me His precious blood;
    I’m just a going over Jordan,
    I’m just a going over home.

    Listen to them every now and then... Led them for over forty years... Some I know by heart and sing around the house... Some know what it is to really feel the words you sing... Brother Glen:)

    Never heard any lined singing although some of the Black brethren as I attended their meeting here and there would sing with the same meter and cadence... From what I understood of the history of lined singing is because the churches didn't have songbooks... But you folks especially kyredneck who is of the same Primitive Baptist brethren I come from can fill me in... I know Sacred Harp and Shape Note is in the same style so to speak... Maybe rlvaughn will drop by he is Sacred Harp and will give us his thoughts... Interesting website Kentuckymama... Brother Glen:)

    I was a charter member of the Little Martha church that was accepted in to the Indian Bottom in 2009. You can read about it in the 2009 minute.

    SG!... What is interesting to me browsing through the minutes that the Old Line PBC share the same similar names... Ours was Little Bethany in San Diego and I have a preacher friend of mine whose church is Little Zion in Bellflower both in California... Why do you suppose that is?... Just a thought... Brother Glen:)

    Yea, what is the significance of that word in a church name anyway? Little This PB church, Little That PB church? Huh?

    Oops!:eek:... Sorry is a definition of Baptist... Primitive Baptist to be exact... Those in the know would know, those not... Oh Well... I agree those that use abbreviations should clarify as some don't know what those abbreviations mean... Brother Glen:)

    We have an "Oh Heaven, Sweet Heaven" song in the Sacred Harp, but it is different from the Old Regular Baptist version.

    I think "Little" in a church name was probably used sort of in the sense of "insignificant (to the world)" and perhaps an expression of humility. (That's just my 2-cent opinion. Add $4.98 if you want a drink from Starbucks!)

    The Sacred Harp version of "Oh, Heaven, Sweet Heaven" (called Land of Rest).
