There is no problem in my view to be paid or not be paid but if a congregation expects a full time pastor without pay, then they have a problem. A pastor who has an outside job has another authority, another boss, and another responsibility in his life. That is in addition to his family. So he cannot be expected to be available at any hour just because his title is "pastor". A congregation must be willing to have that compromise. If they are, great. But I've heard of many who are not and it causes a lot of trouble and discouragements.
