GALLIPOLIS — Gallipolis Wal-Mart shoppers were at first surprised and then excited on Sunday to find a national political figure in their midst who was, just as they were, picking up a few things she needed.

Accompanied by her youngest son Trig, security, staffers and a small pool of news media, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin stepped off the “Straight Talk Express” bus to enter the store around 1:30 p.m., where she purchased a bag of Parents’ Choice brand disposable diapers and a toy.

But it was also an opportunity for the first-term Alaska governor to meet the public at large and win some votes for the ticket on which she’s running with the GOP White House nominee, U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Palin did not have time to answer questions from the media following her trip through southeastern Ohio, but left some folks exhilirated at meeting her.

This woman knows how to connect with people. Now you know she could have sent some staff member to pick up diapers for her, but she didn't.

I especially liked the line about how she didn't have time to answer questions from the media. She had time to go to Wal Mart. She had time to meet and talk to regular people but did not have time for the media. I wish more politicians were like that.

Stores are interesting. K-Mart and Target sell about the same stuff for the same price. Target stores are always neat and clean and so are the customers. Around here we have Bartels and Walgreens. They sell the same stuff for about the same price. Bartells is always clean and neat and the customers look clean. Walmarts look a mess, stuff in the aisles, and their customers look a mess.

Wal-Mart has gone way down hill, dirty! We have the dirtiest Wal-Mart I have seen and the customers . . . but The Wife likes their fabric dept. just happenstance that it is on "The Res?"

Not sure just who you are trying to insult here Bill, Wal Mart, Wal Mart Customers, native Americans, or Republicans?

Shop where you want Bill, our Wal Mart is usually clean and orderly. The customers there are representative of our local population. Of course we don't have the other stores you mention so we kind of have to go to Wal Mart.

Best products, best price, most convenient, that usually gets the customers in a free market economy. I suppose I could burn up some more of this Venezuelan gasoline and drive to Tennessee and go to Target.

This was a very good thing for her to do but I don't think her connection with mainstream America was ever in doubt. She has been very effective with average Joe or Joe six pack from the start. So I like how the two statements I put in red go together.

I know I'll get flamed but I'm going to ask anyway, if this wasn't a campaign stop just for the show, why hasn't the strait talk express stopped at any Walmarts before Sunday? Has Trig been wearing the same diaper all this time or did she start the campaign with over a months worth? I'm probably the only one who sees it this way.

Target and KMart are not about the same price. On anything.
And Costco is even higher.
I don't know where you been shopping but these claims are not true.
We looked at an item at Wal Mart one time and wanted to look around to get the best price. We went KMart. It was the same item, same brand, same box. $10., it was something like $14.99 or so at Wal MArt. I don't know about you, but $10. makes a big difference to us. If I ahd to shop at the other stores you name, I wouldn't be able to take care of our home.

I make no judgments. I just don't believe that she actually is using these diapers. It is perfectly within her rights to make a political stunt.
