Featured Pants on Women

    Actually, from what I can find, ancient harlots in Israel & nearby wore a certain kind of veil, and makeup, with emphasis on the latter. Had nothing to do with pants. They gazed at & smiled at every man passing by til they scored a john. Today's harlots do much the same, as you said, advertising. After all, it IS the world's oldest profession.

    Some years ago, I had to ask gals in the worship team to be careful in what they wore, so that men would not think they were soliciting. Not pants in that case but short skirts and bare midriff, emphasized even more when raising hands and swaying to the beat. I asked the leader first to straighten this out, but he didn't get the message across. So met privately with the offenders.

    Was SO PLEASED with the reaction. Actual tears, saying that they didn't realize how it looked from the audience. And actually THANKED me for enough concern that I would talk with them privately about this. Don't assume she is a "harlot" or a "hussy" but may be unaware of her action or appearance.

    I have said for years that many of these type dressers truly have no idea how their “modern” styles can affect males.

    I think it was earlier in this thread that I used an illustration of my daughter & tight jeans & my son (1-1/2 years her junior) told her what a boy thought of a girl dressed like that. Never had a problem with her dress from then to now - she is 54.

    ‘Course SOME do, but that always has been!!!!

    Wait...your church had drums?!

    In all my years I have never seen a person leading worship with their abdomen showing. What kind of liberal church were you running, Bob? :p:Wink:Whistling

    Amen. If I could agree with your post multiple times I would.

    It is unfathomable what women, even supposed "Christians" wear to the beach. I don't even go to the beach anymore for that reason. If I wanted to see what I see at the beach I'd go to one of them loose women clubs with poles. I don't go to those places, and beaches have unfortunately turned into the same thing.

    Every male that went through public, or even Christian schools, knows what loose women in our culture wear. They know what those clothes signal.

    When my wife and I were first married I realized on the way to service one day that she was wearing skin-tight yoga pants. I turned the car around and she changed her clothes. I think women nowadays either don't know what they're doing or are so warped by the culture that they think it's OK because Hollyweird says so.

    Joy of working with a variety of churches in State mission work. In that one, I had to interim nearly 18 months.
    Music team (not leading worship) did not realize how clothing appeared to audience. They were on raised platform so skirts looked shorter from audience perspective. And two-piece Sunday outfit (like skirt/blouse/pullover) when lifting arms up showed 8 inches of bare skin. Guess a gal looked in mirror at home and outfit looked modest, and just needed to be reminded how it looked during the music.

    PS - I had to be reminded of MY modesty when preaching in one church where, after arriving, the church deacon took me aside and noticed I had short-sleeved shirt and also wearing wedding band/watch. He said please keep my coat on, since they did not want bare skin. A long-sleeved shirt would have been a lot cooler that day!!

    I took off the watch but not my ring (I was 100 pounds heavier than wedding day and couldn't get it off). So used a band-aid from the car first-aid kit to fully wrap/cover it up. And reminded myself that when I went out to a church to have "contingency clothing" along to adapt to local policies of a church. I truly had never thought of my wedding band as "sinful" apparel. :)

    It's one of those roads we can follow a long way down. Even a necktie is a decoration, isn't it? It's certainly not a necessary piece of clothing, and it has no use other than ornamental.

    For what it's worth, I think modest dresses and skirts best befit a woman's distinct femininity, and I also agree that dresses are not the best clothing choice in some situations/activities.

    I see a few principles we ought to practice in clothing: 1) modesty/humility 2) gender distinction 3) suitability (for a given situation, or audience, as in the case you mentioned above).

    Couple things -
    1) if the church has such a strick dress code - they should have informed the speaker at t he time of the request.

    2) I would refuse to take off my wedding ring - if you ask me to come - my wife is part of the package deal!

    They are some holiness churches that are exactly that strict. I remember an old man, long gone now, who finally had enough of it. He said he put his wedding ring back on, and put the hubcaps back on his car, and drove off and never went back!

    I absolutely refuse to attend any church that's THAT full of MAN-MADE policies & customs. They remind me of Pharisees. That includes POW as well.

    I would be liable to attend such a church - and then insist on showing me Scripture to backup those man-made rules!

    Well there are a number of issues. We are not under the Law. There are the purpose and principles of God's Law.
    Deuteronomy 22:5, ". . . The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. . . ."

    First - I was just responding about wearing a wedding ring.
    Second - I do agree that we are NOT under the Law
    Third - Exactly what was being worn that should not have been worn by the "wrong" gender?

    Loose pants are more modest than loose skirts.

    If the lady’s husband is satisfied with what she’s wearing, I’m not going to interfere.

    My wife wears slacks (jeans) in her work as a lead in a logistics warehouse. It would be impossible to do her job in a dress, skirt, culottes, or even some other "religious" imposition of a clothing standard! She also wears jeans to church services, which most of the ladies in our church do. I would like to see her in a skirt or dress from time to time, but, because of a severe auto accident back in December of 2015 that did major scarring to her legs and other parts of her body, I overlook what I'd like in favor of what is most comfortable for her. We prayed long and hard about this choice, and I'm glad to see that MrW isn't one who would try to impose someone's standards on everyone else. Kudos!

    I have a friend of the UPC persuasion. She thinks if you're not baptized in water in Jesus' name, and if you do not speak in tongues, you are lost. You can do either one, doesn't matter which comes first, but if you don't have both, you're lost. She also thinks it is a sin for a woman to wear pants or to cut her hair.

    One day I asked her, "Do you really think all these Baptists trusting John 3:16 are lost and going to hell?" She thought and then said, "I really don't know."

    She and I worked at the same company and since she had to climb stairs with open grating, a skirt wasn't feasible. She would wear her denim skirt over her denim pants when she came to work, then remove the denim skirt and work in her jeans all day.

    So I asked her, "Do you believe it's a sin for a woman to wear pants?" She said, "Yes."

    "But you're wearing pants inside the plant. If it's a sin outside the plant, it's a sin inside the plant."

    A wife is responsible to her husband, God being the head of Christ and Christ the head of the man, and the man the head of his wife. If the husband is ok with the pants, I believe God is ok with them too. And no other man is responsible for her, only her husband. The pastor or the deacons are not her head--her husband is (women, marry a Godly husband).

    I want to do right before God. My wife does, too. We have no problem with pants, but I very much dislike skinny jeans and/or tight pants on a woman and I REALLY hate them on a man. Just wear them loose fitting, and I think it's all fine. But once again, I'm only responsible for my wife (and daughters living with me if I had them).
