If you get your facts straight there is no mad cow disease in Canada. It was an isolated incident that has been taken care of. Strict control measures have been since been put in place. Furthermore, the States have already had mad cow disease problems of their own, when it showed up in Washington. They have a "Blame Canada" mentality.

That, or the checks and balances Canada has in place work as well as the Canadian health care system does.

 

I am not sure how to take your last statement--as a compliment or otherwise. I could take a job in the U.S., but I prefer to stay in Canada precisely because of the healthcare system. It is the U.S. that is crying out for drugs from Canada. Funny how the Americans can't afford their own American-made medicines.

Thank you brother for your service to our nation and for your sensible comments! I know the feeling and have heard it from many fellow veterans. We are still with those who fight today. They carry on the lineage just as we did for those before us. Write to them, talk to them, and let'em know how you feel - it'll make a difference and they need the support.

DHK, I think the number of uninsured American's is higher than reported. We have low cost health insurance for Nick because of our terribly low income. My husband can go to the VA and see specialists from Emory for $35. but if I were to get really sick, I'd just have to die.

My husband has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma, Multiple Sclerosis (just diagnosed 2 months ago), Rheumatoid Arthritis, High BP, an atropied bladder (has been unable to urinate without a catheter for 11 years or so), etc. He's 57 and cannot get a decent paying job. We made $11,000. last year. In 1994 he made over $60,000 (before taxes and S/S at 15% for self employed). We now are 2 months behind on our mortgage and cannot find an answer.

I'd gladly accept socialized medicine. Anything is better than NOTHING.

Over 1000 troops have been killed in this war. It makes me sick.

Some of us, who have been on the receiving end of war casualties, directly or by family, are SICKENED by the implication that we are against the troops. HOW DARE YOU!

YOU HAVE NO IDEA how our hearts ache for those in the war. When was the last time YOU fell on your face, weeping and sobbing over the latest news of young people who left their families, and now will never return?

If you think that the war is justifiable, that's your opinion. I will not blame you for the deaths and mutilations of our soldiers. But you should understand that if someone does not, then opposing it is the best thing to do for the troops, and you do not hold a squatre inch of high ground in the issue.

The protests here do nothing to help the troops in the field.

 

If we would stop waging wars that have nothing to do with the defense of our nation, it would help the troops greatly. That's what some of us want.
