I heard this phrase a while back but I can't remember who said it or where. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether we are truly in one.

guess i need more of what you asking. little off you know.

I think what that refers to is the fact that there has been a great blending of churches. In other words, doesn't matter much what denomination you are in, as long as you are in some church.
Actually, I think there are alot more non-denominational churches around. Whether that is good or not is one's opinion I guess.
I actually like to know what a particular church thinks is important. What a person doesn't want to get into, I would think, would be a type of church that tries to please everyone, offend no one and therefore so watered down and generic that they don't take a stand for anything.
I actually had a minister tell me one time when I asked what the church stood for say "I don't take a stand on anything." I was like, could you repeat that!!!
I don't know, does post-denominational mean that whatever you believe, as long you believe in Jesus, is ok? If that is the case, give me a denomination.
James2 -
James, i agree i think people are looking for that feel good religion.
Not me i want people to know what they are getting when they come up to our church, Baptist Doctrine, Baptist Teaching, which is right out of the Bible, no guessing! the letter to Timothy talks about that alittle i think.

I agree. I think doctrine -- a concise statement of beliefs -- is really needed these days. Sorry to say, a lot of the people in the pews do not understand the fundamentals of the faith. That's probably why alot of them say church is boring.
I have a special love for the Baptist Church. Have a great day -
Could this be the 'great falling away' refernced in the bible? Church, church, church but it really doesn't mean much.

When denomination "distinctives" are no longer "distinct", we are in danger of losing identity.
We have a baptist church in town that allows folks to join who were sprinkled as babies. I feel they should take the name "baptist" off the door.
And we have some cults and kooks who operate under "non-deonominational" titles. That is far more deceptive.
I think we ARE in a falling away . . and many organizations are trying to BLUR the denominational distinctives for the sake of evangelism (ie Billy Graham type) or fellowship (ie Promise Keepers type).
I AM A BAPTIST. Baptist born, Baptist bred, and when I die I'll be Baptist dead.
Someone asked me if I was one of those "narrow minded Baptists that believed only Baptists were going to heaven".
I told them, "No. I don't even believe all BAPTISTS are going to heaven." :D

When Jesus walked the Earth, there were already denominations. But he walked from Nazareth to Bethabara, about 45 miles, to get baptized by a Baptist. I agree, not all Baptists will get to heaven. I also believe there will be Charismatics, Methodists, Lutherans, Presbetyrians(sp?), & Catholics with us up there. It's just that the Baptist believers will have 1st class provisions.
I think the falling away affects all Churchs. People no longer abiding in sound doctrine, but willing to bend or ignore certain parts of the Bible in the interest of keeping a congregation. When I was searching for a church I saw some packed to the gills, no place to even park your car. My church has about 30 members. People come & go, but our pastor has a lovely way of preaching compromisers out. -

Also, I saw a commercial for a Unitarian Church....seems they have a denomination with no set doctrine of beliefs. "There are many paths to God, come, we can help you find one" Pretty scary.....

Mr. Curtis, I sure am glad you were joking about the heavenly hierachy....I know some IFB who take that mighty seriously. They are constantly working on their "crown gathering" to get first class seating ;)
I can hardly wait to get to heaven and see the look on some people's faces...the one's who think that surely they should be the only ones there cause they are oh so righteous...sadly I do know people who think only the Baptist saints will be the ones to see heaven. -
Here in Artesia there is always a big push to brake down denominations by the charismatic group. So I put a piece in the paper telling why I go to my Baptist Church and if they really wonted to brake down barriers they should get rid their own churches and all of them just have one big church or all go to this church on one Sunday and another the next Sunday.
Needless to say they didn’t do it because look at the vast differences in beliefs, one last thing they have gone as far as to have ecumical meetings in the Christian Science reading room and what is hard for me to understand is the SBC is heading this up. -

While I am not a big conspiracy guy, it is interesting that the end times according to the Word of God make it clear that there will be a break down of normal barriers and a world-wide church and government.
Anytime you take a stand on distinctives such as the "BRAPSIS" distinctives, you will find yourself separated from some others who claim to be Christians. :(
As the old saying goes it takes to strength or character to swim downsteam, anyone can do that.... Denominations are good in that they provide a distinction of belief of different groups so we can see up front what we are getting into. Give me the good old Baptist title anytime.... :D
Keep in the Word!!
