RevMitchell is correct in this post. There is a vast difference between review and changing policy. The sad thing is, when the Supreme Court changes policy outside the Congress or amending the Constitution, it takes forever to change, and has major impact on this nation (Roe vs Wade, for example). For years, conservative Congresses and Presidents try to chip away at it, but it still stands. These nine positions are very, very powerful.

While we do not know the whole story on her, one can safely say it will not make a vast difference in the direction of the court. The one leaving (appointed by Bush the First by the way), was liberal leaning enough. What will hurt this nation the most is if one of the four conservative justices has to be replaced (Scalia, Alito, Roberts, or Thomas) has to be replaced by Obama and his Democratic Senate. The only one of the nine that still puzzles me is Kennedy.

If a conservative white male would have said this:

the left wing blogs would have been ablaze. What a sexist comment to make - she shows partiality before she is even confirmed. Disgusting.

What they ought to do is put average, everyday people as a Supreme Court Judge. The requirment by law should be that they have no experience as a judge. If that were to happen, you would see more level-headed responses.

Why's that, Ken? Since most "right-wingers" are against her because of the abortion issue, one can only conclude that you don't care that much about the abortion issue, your protestations to the contrary notwithstanding.

Right-wingers can have all the hissy fits they want to about this nomination, including any in the U.S. Senate; however, their efforts will fail.

It would have be unreasonable for right-wingers to expect President Obama to select someone who would satisfy them. I'm am evangelical Christian of whom there is no doubt that I believe the fundamentals of the faith and I doubt that right-wingers would be satisfied with whom I would pick for the SCOTUS.

Unlike some right-wingers the abortion issue is one issue among many for me, no less nor no more important than other major issues.

Can you show an example of these hissy fits that you repeatedly refer to?

    What happende to your prediction?

"My prediction - a lot of those on the left won't be satisfied and a lot of those on the right won't be satisfied."

Were you being disingenuous when you said this?

So the abortion issue is no more important than ANY other issue for you?

    Brother, that is just sad.

    What happened to discernment?

I really fail to understand why you are worried about right wingers in this case, Suiter is a liberal being replaced by a liberal. It has a net effect of zero.

There has not been a right wing President since Reagan. Remember who picked Suiter. In my lifetime, the only conservative Presidents have been Truman and Reagan. The only moderates have been Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, and Ford. Then, which should put you in hog heaven, the liberals have been LBJ, Carter, Bush the First, Clinton, Bush the Second, and Obama. I would say before the end of the Obama term, one or more of the conservative justices will retire, probably Thomas or Scalia. The justice that remains a mystery to me is Kennedy.

It's only been less than 12 hours. If one looks at her record, it is interesting that in her rulings she has sided with the conservatives more times than disagreeing. If this becomes widely known it could cause griping by liberals.

"Known as a moderate on the court, Sotomayor often forges consensus and agreeing with her more conservative nominees far more frequently than she disagrees with them. In cases where Sotomayor and at least one judge appointed by a Republican president were on the three-judge panel, Sotomayor and the Republican appointee(s) agreed on the outcome 95% of the time." - http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/...otomayor-fight--evoke-her-empathy.php?ref=fpa

I'm with Scarlett O. on this one.....
I just pray that God will steer the debate and the decision in the direction which is most favorable to his will for our country..... and I hope that His will is mercy and grace.... instead of judgement...

Why is it that the leftist democrats and others who voted to increase abortions always use this excuse?
