Ken, I think you should be required to post some of the article, and your thoughts on it. I do not ever check your links out, because I don't trust just any old site, and don't want tracking & cookies coming into my P.C. from just any old site. I thought it was in the rules, but I may be mistaken. However, if you never want me to look at the articles, keep on doing it this way.

"The Washington Post reported on Monday that Parsons Inc., a construction firm is expected to finish only 20 out of 142 health clinics it was contracted to build in Iraq. The money in the contract is running out, and $200 million was already spent in the first two years.
When the health clinic construction contract was first awarded during the beginning stages of Iraqi reconstruction, it was originally envisioned that it would serve as the foundation of a modern health care system for Iraq.
Currently only 20 health clinics are expected to be completed, according to the Washington Post. Additionally 120 are approximately two-thirds finished.
To add insult to injury, the announcement that Parsons, Inc. would fall short of completing its contract came with little prior warning."
My thoughts: This is bad. -

Thanx, Ken. I know it's extra work.....
A few questions, as the article is kinda vague....
Where is Parson's Inc based.
Where were the cost over-runs ? The article seems to say that Parson's Inc is the only company facing this crisis.
Would Halliburton have been a better choice ? -
Where is Parson's Inc based?
The article doesn't mention this.
Where were the cost over-runs?
The article doesn't specify the Iraqi cities and it focuses only on Parson's Inc.
Would Halliburton have been a better choice?
I don't know. -

Allright. Now I know why you never comment on these articles.

Washington Post
Money was taken from the $18.4 Billion alloted for Iraq's re-construction, to build up the country's police & security forces, as it was a big waste of money to build stuff only to have it blown up. Now they are asking for emergency funds to finish. Perhaps Parsons Inc should do the rest of the work for free, to make themselves look good, but they probably won't. I wouldn't.
I can't fault Parsons Inc on this. -
Me, neither. What's the point? Just another case in point of there not being a plan after the toppling of Saddam (who will probably get off scott free). (sigh)

LE,

I do not know of anyone, pro-war or anti-war, who would like to see Saddam go unpunished. -
Construction projects even in the best of times and conditions often go over budget. I find nothing unusual about that. I do find it kind of odd that there isn't a big rukus over the Pentagon and CPA losing billions of dollars into thin air though.

I'm wondering why Bush thinks that Iraqis deserve a system of free public health facilities, to be financed by American citizens, who he thinks are undeserving of such facilities.
The question of why this administration let the contractor go this long, with no audit to see if we were getting anything for our tax dollars is also an important question, of course... -
The Iraqis had free healthcare under the Ba'athists as well as free education for boys and girls.

Oh come on, Daisy. Would you want to be under their care ? You think they were better off than poor Americans ? I've seen mass graves with victims of the Ba'athist's health "care" system.
I am asolutely sure you don't believe what you posted. -
I don't care if Iraqis have it. I'm wondering why Bush wants Americans to shell out for a benefit for the Iraqis that he doesn't think Americans deserve to have.

As far as I know, he's just building hospitals, or trying to. I don't remember hearing word one from him concerning him giving Iraqis free health care at our expense.
-
Call me crazy, but I think giving away free hospitals is providing free health care. Well, it's not really free. American taxpayers are paying for it.
Whatever part of it is actually being used to provide health care to the Iraqis.
I wonder if our VA facilities are as nicely appointed.
Ah, they're just veterans. Who cares? No one in this administration, apparently. Even a fraction of that $18.4 billion would have prevented the current reduction in services to veterans, services they were promised. -

Surely if someone contrcts to build for a price they should be obliged to do it regardless of the purpose of the buildings. After all, had they come in under budget they would have happily enjoyed the extra profit. It shows poor commercial judgement on the part of the contractor to be so far off.
That Iraq was a difficult dangerous place to work was never a secret, it's why there are high profits to be made for some...
