Give strong drink to him who is perishing,
And wine to him whose life is bitter.
Let him drink and forget his poverty
And remember his trouble no more. [Proverbs 31:6-7]

That was given as medicine to one whose life was about to end. It was a time when meds such as we have today were not available.

Today, hospitals give morphine and such to dying patients. Alcohol is not necessary.

Also, Proverbs 31 is not condoning everyday recreational use of the drug of alcohol, only to dying patients.

It is also not wrong to drink it in moderation.

But that subject has been argued about on this board for probably about a thousand times over the years. :)

That's your word. The scripture's word is, "to him who is perishing and to him whose life is bitter."

So why would you give something sinful to someone if their life was ending? Does imminent death negate sin? If sin doesn't matter when one is perishing, why not give them a prostitute?

Because the Bible never prescribes a prostitute. Well, in the case of Hosea it did, but Hosea was not ready to die.

You didn't answer the question. Does God gives permission to partake of sin if one is perishing?

The key is that person has a bitter heart and is ready to die. The child of God does not have a bitter heart. God gives the child of God a joyful heart.

This passage in verses 6 and 7 is speaking of one who is unsaved and ready to perish, not a child of God.

It makes no difference (even though you are wrong). A holy God would never condone ANY sin to ANYONE. It is NEVER OK to commit ANY sin in God's eye, bitter, perishing, whatever.

Only the ones which are now illegal. As to the others, it should be an individual's choice.

Why should the ones that are currently illegal remain illegal? Why should individuals who have a preference for the illegal poison not have individual choice?

Funny that what we are most addicted to, we don't want to outlaw.
