"....Promoting “non-traditional sex relations” through media or the internet could be fined as much as 100,000 rubles (about$3,000 U.S.), while organizations could face a million ruble fine or a 90-day suspension of activities.
In anticipation of criticism, Putin warned Western countries to mind their own business. Speaking at a press in Finland in June, he said, “Some countries...think that there is no need to protect children from this. We do.” ..."
Can't help but to respect that!
Some of the comments made by Russians are interesting, and informative because odds are you won't get that angle from the media here.
Feel free to chuckle, but using words 'uncensored' like that brings them to the attention of google bots and increases the chance of getting applicable ads for those who don't use an ad blocker.
I'm not chuckling...I'm just being direct. Nothing in my worldview warrents sweaping things under the rug. Seriously do you think in the course of conversation about this subject matter that the word wont eventually pop up?
It shows that there is no pretense of equality in Russia. As a Baptist you would still be considered a sect and subject to punishment any time the government needs a scapegoat. In the past you would not have been allowed an education, a good job. You would have been a second class citizen or worse.
Does seem rather odd though that people are protesting now; after all, Russia's had a pretty appalling human rights record under Putin so why is the g@y issue the catalyst?
They favor and approve of the Russian Orthodox Church and not others. All others are sects, at least all protestants. I am not sure what their view is of other orhtodox churches.
Thanks for seeing the point of the post. All this is is evidence of a government which suppresses all freedom and absolutely denies civil liberties to all dissenters.
