The prayer was probably written out and decided ahead of time. I am sure things were added and deleted many times and it was all well thought out and rehearsed. In reality it was as much a political statement as a prayer.
But in fairness to RW that is probably what was asked and expected of him. I doubt seriously it was a spontaneous heart felt prayer to our Lord.
Well, I hate to try to speak for my pastor, but, I doubt that he would ever agree to give a politically motivated prayer for anyone, even the President of the US.
And to clarify, I don't think RW ran anything by Obamo first for approval or anything like that. Rather that what he did had been well thought out and rehearsed ahead of time, and as a result of that was as much a political statement as is was a prayer.
I think most pastors I know, self included, would hold to your statement.
I may pray at such an event, but would not have a written prayer, which means I would probably get nervous and mispeak.
But I klnow all my brothers and sisters on the BB would have my back and defend me against attacks from others:laugh:
Yet another unfounded attack on the man's character. Salamander now has the spiritual gift to know what's in the man's heart :applause: Some will say this not "bashing", though...
I thought he would have won you over with his recital of the Lord's Prayer from the KJV.
I could just as easily say don't be so paranoid. I doubt RW had to seek or submit his prayer for approval. No, I think rather Obama chose people with whom he has previously had enough discourse with that he was confident enough that they would not say anything that would be an affront to his beliefs.
The rich man was concerned for his brothers but this knowledge seems to be what he had in life based on his experience of being in torment and concern that his brothers not go there. This is hardly evidence that he knew or could see anything going on on earth.
I am not a fan of Rick Warren's or Obama's, so you won't get a big argument from me. but I think it would be unfair to suggest that RW wasn't free to say whatever he chose to within his prayer.
This was discussed on another thread. This does not mean the martyrs could not see what was on earth - they know that God had not avenged their deaths because they were in heaven.
