Just finished The Ninety Days: Five Battles that Changed the World" by Thomas Carmichael
Focus on Oct 1-Dec 31 of 1942</font>Personally, could have left Torch and Barents out and spent more time on the three major events - but it was very well written and amplified with lots of maps.
- Guadalcanal</font>
- El Alamein</font>
- Operation Torch</font>
- Stalingrad</font>
- Barents Sea</font>

"A History Of Israel" by John Bright.
Covers the theories about the beginning of time through the Old Testament. Kinda hard to read sometimes, but is very thorough and helpful in finding information.

From the Holy Mountain: A Journey Among the Christians of the Middle East
by William Dalrymple
Dalrymple retraces the travels of John Moschos a 6th century Byzantine monk, whose book, The Spiritual Meadow is one of the most important pieces of Byzantine literature.
Dalrymple's book is a fascinating and entertaining description of a great tragedy, the downfall of Christianity in the Middle-East.
A typical example of Newest History, it takes place in the mid-nineties.

I have just finished two books about Lincoln, one is titled: "Lincoln's Virtues: an Ethical Biography and the other is "Lincoln's Men". The authors are William Lee Miller and William Davis. I have a library of 40 to 50 books about the Civil war and Lincoln.

The Winds of War by Wouk has lots of insight on the social and political events surrounding the beginning of WWII.

With Malice Toward None by
Stephen Oates. I was sorry when the
book ended.
I'd love to see more recommendations. -
Seabiscuit . The book is about
more than a horse! It is about America
too, the years during the Depression
and before WW II. This is one of the
best books I've read in many years.
Very, very well-written.

"The Rise of Christian Europe" by Hugh Trevor-Roper. The end of the middle ages, and the rise of Europe to world dominance.
"A Distant Mirror" Barbara Tuchmann An analysis of the disturbed times of the 14th century, through the life of Enguerrand DeCoucy, a highly respected French noble.
"Rats, Lice, and History" Hans Zinsser A discussion of the role of pestilence in human affairs. Up until the 20th century, disease killed more soldiers than anything else. Zinsser manages to make the subject enteraining and even humorous, while giving a great deal of scientifically and historically accurate information.
