CP: Justin Bieber's Jesus Tattoo Is a Powerful Symbol, Says Church Minister
"During Bieber’s recent vacation with girlfriend Selena Gomez in Hawaii, pictures of the young couple surfaced on the Web, revealing Bieber’s newest tattoo of a Hebrew inscription reading “Yeshua,” which means Jesus, vertically inked on the upper portion of his left ribcage."
Pastor Kyle Steven Bonenberger:
“Justin Bieber, he is probably arguably one of the biggest celebrities in the world right now. I think in his case, it's a pretty powerful way of saying ‘I follow Jesus.’”

That must mean everyone with a fish sticker on their car is also a Christ follower! I better get one!

'Bout the same as wearing a cross on a necklace or bracelet, which is nothing more than a fashion statement for most people. Tattoos are very much the rage right now and religious symbols are more for show than sincere messages.
-
I wonder what the full context is and if there was more to it than that.

How much longer before "Selena" is tattooed on the upper portion of his right rib cage?

Marketing 101, his shelf life is about over and the dude is just trying to extend his 15 minutes of fame, by trying to tap into the "Christian" market.

But honestly, I'd love to read the transcript of what the pastor said. Did he say it to be sarcastic and go on to speak about how we really show our faith? So often things can be taken out of context so I'd reserve judgment until I was sure what was going on. -
Oops, I mistyped the address in the OP. Here's the link.

For what its worth it seems Justin is a pretty quality guy who is following Jesus while impacting others. As I understand it he has a personal chaplain on tour with him.
I'm happy he spelled it right. :) -

I came across his special which was on the screens and watched for a while.
It seemed like a lot of prancing, dancing, jumping and gyrations which IMO was a skirting of the more erotic type dancing done by other (present and late) Hollywood moguls which I had seen.
There also seemed a kind of audience participation which also mimicked the worship of Hollywood stars, weeping, rapture, swooning and adoration, also an obsessing with clothes, hair, etc to enhance his popularity which appeared unhealthy in my estimation.
This and all the prayer stuff mixed in as well.
It seemed to me a mixed message.
This passage went through my mind:
1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world...
But then again I am being somewhat hypocritical as I am an "old geezer" with my own age related set of worldly influences to ensnare me.
No, we are not under the law.
Tattoos for the children of God? The test of faith, the leading of the Spirit and the glory of God applies.
The just shall live by faith (Hab 2:4, Rom 1:17, Gal 3:11, Heb 10:38).
Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
I don't know, it just seemed a mixed message to me and a "gateway drug" into the more sensuous type of current rock star presentations.

As long as this thread has morphed into a discussion of the 613 statements, Christians have always picked the ones they want to observe and make excuses for not observing the rest.

Look, I have two tattoos from my sinner days. I am not lambasting the kid, but it one wants to "show" Christ, do it with your life, and not your body. I can find a "sot" slumped over in an alley, and put a Jesus shirt and hat on him/her, and that does not make them saved. Let your light so shine, and this is through our daily communications with the lost. A Jesus shirt on a hog, is still a hog......
