Have any of you guys heard about this?
Maher may now be the best-recognized atheist crusader in the world (definitely when you move from academic circles).
Here's the IMDB site on the movie to be released: "Religulous" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0815241/
He attacks Christianity, Islam, Judaism with venom and fervor.
It will be interesting to see how Christians react to this movie.
Will they boycott it, thus providing free advertising?
Will they try and use it in a manner of dialogue?
WIll they ignore it?
Will they launch rhetorical counterattacks against Maher?
This may all be moot...since Maher is attacking Islam, he'll probably be dead soon after this movie releases... (I'm not meaning that jokingly. Someone headed to hell isn't a joking manner).
I'm being serious when I say that I pity the man. He may lie, and he may even lie to himself...but I'm telling you I can see it...the man is absolutely miserable.
Wonder why? :saint:
Religulous: The new Bill Maher movie

I say we watch the movie, and help others who may be stuck in corners, or prevent ourselves from being stuck if we are approached about it. I saw an interview the other night and he claims that he is not an atheist, he is just out to embarass those who claim to have it right...whether you are any of the top 3 monotheistic religions. I've never seen him dialogue with someone who can respond to him confidently, or with answers to make him pause and consider.
Isn't it interesting how he attacks those who claim to be right....yet hasn't stopped to think that maybe HE isn't right? -
I am not in any way, shape, or form, a Bill Maher fan. I am interested in hearing him out. I watched the video clip on this and one thing he said that I agree with is that Christians ought to be more Christ like.
I saw him a while back on the Larry King show, and one of the things he said was that "Christians" get so caught up in the afterlife that they miss the point of "now." I was compelled to hear him out.
I just pray that at some point, before it is too late, that he will fall to his knees in recognition of who God can be in his life. -
He is the liberal poster child and will speak/write/produce a movie that is anti-christian to its core. Not that it doesn't have some value or even some truth.
He is the counterpoint to Dennis Miller or Ann Coulter, poster child of the right and just as articulate and scathing of the fallacies of their opposition.
Miller started off just as liberal as Maher. God can do wonderful work in the heart and mind of man. :praying: -
Well, I dont watch maher, and wont ever watch maher.
But I have to comment on this one statement that Saggy pointed out.
I beleive, that as a whole, Christians get so caught up in the "here and now", that they neglect the afterlife.
Maher is an idiot, and christians that think he is great are even worse.
Just my opinion

There is nothing clever about maher. He is an arrogant bull dog who is willing to use rhetoric in a way that most are not. Asking questions like "why doesn't God take out satan right now, what is He waiting on?" Is not clever but much like asking "Can God create a rock so big He cannot pick it up?".
There is nothing impressive about his cheap attacks. In fact they are the easy way out. -

I saw him in an interview and he said that he is not an athiest but does not believe the silly stories of the major religions. He did not say he is out to embarass believers, though perhaps he is and just did not say so in this interview. He did say that Christians should be more like Christ.
He does seem to have a fundamentalist attitude toward what he himself believes or does not believe.Click to expand...
I agree with others that he takes cheap shots....but also find it odd that he is never up against anyone who is confident enough to respond appropriately.Click to expand... -

He made it to cast doubts.. but refuses to hear doubts about his beliefs... -

Well, the liberal part is correct.....but I dont have any idea how 'fundamentalist" fits .
Actually, I didnt know there was a "liberal fundamentalist" movement.
But, since you brought it up, .....how can the words liberal and fundamentalist be used in the same sentance?
"Crabtownboy" means that there are no morals, and that an individual chooses what is the "right thig to do".

However...I would love to talk to him. I would love to share Christ with him. And if God wants to use this movie in another's life for them to begin to ask me questions, so be it. I'm ready. I don't have all the answers, but I do know the Answer.
I look at Paul and Mars Hill, and welcome the challenge.
I'd probably not call them an "idiot" as I talked to them, though...that kind of shuts down the dialogue... -

You must have me confused with someone else. I don't believe your statement above at all. Hmmmmmmm, maybe you are not confused. Maybe you just do not understand me. Maybe that is it. -

I figure that Maher has had lots of world known theologians talk and witness to him. I am sure he has heard of Jesus many times over, yet he is still on a campaign to destroy all that is Holy. Do you know something they dont? If you do, then I will be the first to donate some money towards you going to New York, or LA to find Mr Maher and convert him. Let me know if you decide to actually do this.
Do you really think that this movie will draw more folks to seek Jesus?
I am not Paul, and America is not Mars Hill. -

Oh my gosh?
You are right. I am so confused (stupid), because I believe the Bible and dont understand you?????????
Where are my priorities?
Agape? Yes God loves, but have you ever done a search on "hate"? God hates, and says He does...I am not saying that hate is a commandment to us, but, when you and others, try to leave out the parts of the Bible that demand morals and responsibility, and only talk about "Love" then you arent reading the whole bible.

I believe the Bible and I do not understand everyone. -
I think we need to watch every movie ever made. That way, if an unbeliever talks about it, we will be prepared to talk to them about it from a Christian perspective. In fact, we also need to watch every TV show, listen to every musician, etc. We need to immerse ourselves in the pop culture around us - otherwise, we are not being faithful to the Great Commission.

What we fail to see is that we are here now, and our afterlife and all its glory is laid out because of here and now.
Many do neglet to see the long term results of our actions now (i.e. afterlife) but in the same vein, this causes us to focus even more on the here and now so that we can have an afterlife.
