Time to election day is running out.
I live in one of the reddest states in the nation, and there are suttle hints all over the place that the electorate are less than inspired by Mitt.
Even at church, one hears comments about having second thoughts.
The three main problems seem to be lack of a clear message, timidity, and a series of gaffs in the press.
For his supporters, Obama seems enthused, optimistic, and ready to fight.
The last thing this nation needs is another four years of Obama.
It is not easy to unseat a sitting President.
The person who is running against him has to act like he wants the job.
This reminds me of 1992.
When George Bush campaign, it appeared he was going through the motions, and did not really want the job.
Voters pick up on this.
This situation seems to have accelerated in the last two weeks.
I think you are quite right in your assessment. Mitt has never made his message, ideas, plans, or whatever clear. This "Just trust me," approach will, IMHO, never win a national election.
Like him or hate him Obama has run a much better campaign.
What we cannot afford is to have a president from either party with a do nothing, always say no Congress.
I would throw Bob Dole's campaign and John McCain's campaign in the same category as Bush Sr.'s campaign. Lackluster at best.
Romney is not making enough appearances in enough toss up states to get any traction. Where is the simply stated policy goals? He's got a 59 point economic plan. Hello? We need something simple to grasp like Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan.
I am glad we agree on something.
I doubt we will ever agree on policy of the US Government.
Have you ever voted Republican for President?
I have voted in eleven elections, nine Republican and two Democrat.
The two Democrats were Carter's first term and Clinton's first term.
I never voted for any Democrat for reelection.
If there was a moderate or conservative Democrat running this year, they would get my vote.
This election is a far left candidate running against a moderate to liberal candidate.
You know what, I had forgotten about Bob Dole.
I actually voted for him after voting for Clinton the first time.
I also voted for McCain, but to tell the truth, I did not decide that until I entered the voting booth.
McCain's history has been very irractic.
One moment
he is siding with Democrats and the next with Republicans.
Also, he was considered as a VP choice with Kerry.
Maybe I am wrong, but is seems like in the 80s, he was involved in some kind of savings and loan scandal investigation.
Your other point is also a good one.
There are nine or ten states that will decide this election.
That is where Romney should be.
He is wasting his time visiting Californias or Kentucky, states that are already decided.
You are right, SN.
I emailed his campaign this mornng saying pretty much the same things.
You can do the same.
I said basically that conservatives are crying out for him to draw his distinctions more clear between what his policies will be compared to obama's, both on the domestic front as well as foreign policy, to make it so clear that even uneducated people can understand the differences and to be more aggressive and firm, that whatever is thrown at him, he turn around and fight right back with his clear, precise message, stronger than ever if he expects to win.
:)
I've said this elsewhere here, Romney has failed to articulate a coherent message and is a lackluster candidate.
I don't think this is a giant "media conspiracy" either. He genuinely has not been able to put together reasonable proposals and develop a message that speaks to the American people. Given his rising dilettanteism he looks even more detached than before.
Like I said back in December...Obama is going to win it in Novemeber.
I have voted for Republican candidates and also for Democratic candidates. I was a registered Republican for many years. However, after Reagan the Republican party moved and I no longer find much of what they advocate acceptable. I changed my registration for that reason and also because in Maryland the Democratic primary is often the real election.
I always voted for Marjorie Holt, the long time Republican Maryland senator. She was a great senator and a Republican in the traditional sense of the word. I believe she would be flabbergasted at many of the proposals of current Republicans.
As you might guess I am very opposed to Ayn Rand's atheistic, materialistic and, to me, greedy philosophy. Her philosophy seems to be the underlying philosophy of many Republicans today. Ryan is a devotee of her philosophy. I simply cannot accept her philosophy and also hold my theological beliefs in what Christ taught and the example of his life as the two, IMHO, contradict each other.
I am not tied to one party or the other. I look more at the person and what they say they believe. We can never be sure a politician is telling the truth in a campaign.
In addition to other major problems I won't get into here,
Romney is totally inept at getting his message across and lacks, it seems, almost any emotion whatsoever in his communication.
