TAMPA -- Mitt Romney's presidential campaign gave Texas Rep. Ron Paul a chance to speak at the Republican National Convention, but he declined due to the conditions of the offer, the New York Times reports:

Mr. Paul, in an interview, said convention planners had offered him an opportunity to speak under two conditions: that he deliver remarks vetted by the Romney campaign, and that he give a full-fledged endorsement of Mr. Romney. He declined.

"It wouldn't be my speech," Mr. Paul said. "That would undo everything I've done in the last 30 years. I don't fully endorse him for president."
Republicans plan to show a tribute video honoring the the retiring libertarian politician Tuesday at the convention. Paul is also holding his own rally nearby on Sunday afternoon.

    Who cares?

Ron Paul took a run at the nomination and lost.

Why does he deserve the microphone?

I guess someone in the Romney campaign felt like he had enough of a following to warrant it.

At least Ron Paul appears to have some convictions.

You confuse "convictions" with "self absorbed".

Yes, Ron Paul has many convictions. Specifically he has a conviction against earmarks all the while taking them home with him.

So what? The only candidate Ron Paul would fully endorse is Ron Paul.

He endorsed 4 candidates in 2008. He's just not a fan of Romney or Obama.

Okay. He said the only candidate Ron Paul would fully endorse. He didn't reference a year.

So 2008 show he would fully endorse another candidate and potentially will this year. It just won't be Romney.

Romney will either win or lose the election on his own merit.
