RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--Texas Rep. Ron Paul will appear first on the ballot for Virginia’s March 6 primary, confirmed Justin Riemer with the state Board of Elections of Virginia.
This arrangement has been decided by a drawing by the state Board of Elections.
Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will appear second on the ballot.
Paul and Romney will be the only GOP presidential candidates on the Virginia ballot because other nominees failed to collect enough signatures to get on the ballot.
Both Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich did not gather the required 10,000 signatures to get on the Virginia ballot. Nor did candidates Bachman, Huntsman or Santorum. Perry has filed a suit in the United States District Court for the East District of Virginia to challenge the qualification requirements.
The case cites legal precedent in striking down requirements for "unrealistic numbers of signatures," and a prohibition on out-of-state petition circulators.
Gingrich’s campaign also said that the state rules are part of “a failed system.”
