I was diagnosed yesterday with the shingles. I do not remember chicken pox itching this much!!
I urge you, strongly, to take advantage of the vaccine available. It will prevent you from getting the shingles. Nobody wants this!

Are you on an antiviral? I had shingles a few months after my first child was born and it was NOT good. I went on meds as soon as I saw the doctor but I still have nerve damage from it.

Please be careful and take this seriously. My wife suffered with shingles on her mouth December 2010 - January 2011 and was severely affected. Prayed for you.

Thank you for the prayers. Yes, I am on anti-virals and they do seem to be helping, as well as the cream which is really helping with the itch. I'm blessed in that they are on my back shoulder area, extending on to the upper part of my left arm. I'm not feeling a lot of pain, thankfully and since I started on the antivirals within a short time of the breakout it's not spreading anymore.

That's great. It sounds like you will be OK soon. ((HUGS))

I will :praying: for you! Though, I have never suffered from the Shingles, my father has and he was miserable and had nasty Cold shivers.

Do take care. I haven't had it myself, but the people in my circle of friends who have testify that it's not pleasant. I'll be praying for you.

Praying for you! I had shingles when I was 35. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

I have never had chicken pox. Maybe I should be more worried about it than I am.

I visited my doctor on Thursday, April 12. It was a regularly scheduled visit to check up on by BP and blood glucose levels. (Both were fine, PTL) I did however mention to him that in the last few days I had experienced a soreness in my lower back and that aspirin didn't seem to have much effect on reducing the soreness.
He took one look at my back and said that I had shingles. He put me on a regimen of Valtrex--three times a day. I quickly discovered that Valtrex is not the most inexpensive medication around. It cost me almost $91 for 21 tablets (i.e., one week's supply), and that was with my insurance plan's discount! (Donations to my medication fund will greatly appreciated!)
Since it's only been a couple days since I started on Valtrex, I guess it's too soon to say if it'll be effective. I hope so, otherwise I'll soon have to be checking on accomodations at the poor house! -
Thankfully, with the aid of the anti-virals and the wonderful cream prescribed my shingles went away quickly. I was blessed not to experience the horrible pain some folks do and thank God for that.
The doctor told me there will be more and more cases of shingles in the upcoming years because children now have the chicken pox vaccine. What kept adults from getting shingles was their exposure to children with chicken pox. That exposure kept their own immunity up, if they'd already had chicken pox. Go figure!
Get the vaccine!!! -
Praise be the Lord, DiamondLady.
I recall the horrible pain, got a bout just before my nursing exams (a long time ago, when nursing training was through the hospital). I remember waking up rubbing my face in the pillow (as the shingles were on my face), I looked AWFUL as well which was hidjous as a very young and rather vain young woman.:tongue3:
