Good point, C4K, I son't see any scriptural support for this, although I'm sure the number of people who will twist a verse or two out of context is copious.
Should Christians rally behind the 2ND AMENDMENT?

Rooster, as this forum welcomes women *along with their opinions* and for the most part treats them respectfully, you ARE out of line in your attitude.
A simple "I do not believe in debating with women", or even "I don't believe it is a woman's place to debate with a man so I will not respond to you" would have been sufficient, along with being more loving, respectful, and much more reflective of a Christian spirit.
If Marcia had known your opinion from the start, most likely she would have respected that and not addressed you personally. She's a decent person and quite knowledgable, so a number of people on this forum do welcome her posts, so even if you don't want to admit she has good advice, sneak and read a few of her posts.

I think self defense is a God given right, and my shotgun is better self defense than a steak knife or dialing 911 if an intruder breaks into my home.
-
I fully respect and am thankful for all of our self proclaimed right in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. But God never promises any of those rights, much less on on owning a gun.
-
Regardless of whether it's God given or not, aren't all things within reason our rights as free American citizens? There are laws in place to protect us, but that's being turned around to make us need permission for or checking out laws to ensure we are not breaking laws in performing normal everyday activities, and that's what irks me most.

"If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him," we are told in Exodus 22:2. The next verse says, "If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft."
In other words, it was perfectly OK to kill a thief breaking into your house. That's the ultimate expression of self-defense. It doesn't matter whether the thief is threatening your life or not. You have the right to protect your home, your family and your property, the Bible says.
Luke 22:36: "Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."
I know. I know. You biblically literate skeptics are going to cite Matthew 26:52-54 – how Jesus responded when Peter used his sword to cut off the ear of a servant of the high priest: "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?"
Read those verses in context and they support my position. Jesus told Peter he would be committing suicide to choose a fight in this situation – as well as undermining God's plan to allow Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection.
Jesus told Peter to put his sword in its place – at his side. He didn't say throw it away. After all, He had just ordered the disciples to arm themselves. The reason for the arms was obviously to protect the lives of the disciples, not the life of the Son of God. What Jesus was saying was: "Peter, this is not the right time for a fight."

I vaguely recalled the following when I posted my comment.

But clearly I was wrong. -

Won't argue the killing a thief concept - that's a whole different debate. But I do disagree with the contention above. -
C4K, If you will not accept the Word of God as enough proof, then there is no point in trying to explane it to you, perhaps, you dont have the holy spirit to help you decern it for you, I would love to tell you about Gods plan of salvation . Because anybody who can read, the Bible claerly states our God given right commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ himself in Luke 22:36 our need to arm ourselves, also it is safe to say that everything we have is given to us by God including our freedoms, he may use man as a means to fulfill His will , but he decides what to giveth, or taketh away. Did not David defeat Goliath with a wepon in his hand? of course God guided that stone, but none the less God used David and his sling shot to defeat Goliath. I can't belive you would dismiss the Word of God, and our God given rights to bear arms.

It is not a God-given right. It is more a necessity of living in a fallen world ever since Cain raised his hand against Abel, and God has allowed weapons carrying after that, not that it was His will for us to do so.
Having said that, I don't own a gun right now, and the only thing I rely on when on the road or at home is my chako, and a pointed screw driver.
But I will get me a handgun (preferably Glock .45) and a double-barrelled automatic shotgun if possible, when I can. -

Yes a sling. I used such a weapon on the police during riots in the 80's. Just as effective as a small caliber pistol, easier to smuggle through security and a lot cheaper.
To this day I hold to the view that guns are for those lazy types that don't want to invest the time needed to master a real weapon.
And before I forget, Rooster if you keep up your current behaviour you will get banned before you reach your 50th post. -

Mioque, why do you insist on leading a lynch mob? Does the truth offend you? Galatians 4:16 (KJV) Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? -

That's the verse all trouble-makers quote when they come here. ;) -

There are posting rules on this board and you have in your first 12 posts already violated them twice.
I won't lead that 'lynchmob', C4K whose salvation you just questioned and who is one of the moderators on this board however may have to decide to ban you.
ps. I belong to that faction on this board that is not especially impressed with the KJV. You can quote the NIV at me with similar results.
You want to make an impression on me by quoting a particular Bibleversion? Quote from the Dutch States Bible. -

It is well known that Jesus was seen as a trouble maker to pharisees, and the greater majority. So is anybody that holds the light of truth.
John 15:18 (KJV) If the world hate you,ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
Romans 8:17(KJV) And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Sheesh, I am not looking for an argument here , why do you feel the need to pursicute me? and make me a martyr? It is with great pride that I will suffer in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ . True I did speak some of my opinion, but it was also backed by the Word of God, therfore not my opinion, but standing Gods Word (Standing on the promises of God) If Gods word offends you there is no need to take it out on me, I didn't write the Bible, I just try to live by guidlines that God has given all of us, true I am far from perfect, but also forgiven by my Creator, and if He can forgive me, then why can't you, one of my earlyer post, I admitted to haveing a wrong attitude and asked for forgivness, that was between Marcia, and myself at that point I thought it was droped, why can't everyone else move on too? :( Once again I'll do the Christian thing an appoligise: if I offended anyone in this debate thread, I am SORRY
, I would like to ask for forgivness, are there any takers, in forgiveing me , and moving on to the real issue at hand? -
Tho' I haven't been offended, I will forgive you; nothing wrong with being zealous, just try being a little wiser while being harmless. ;)
"Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend them."
