Moses Charlton Heston said, "The right to bear arms is the right that allows all the other rights to exist." Therefore, maybe, surely, the AntiChrist will come only when all citizens have been disarmed.

So, shouldn't all Christians support the right to bear arms and NOT STAND ON THE SIDELINES?

Charlton Heston wasn't Moses and frankly, I don't care what Heston thought or said.

I think the right to bear arms was for a militia. Being a Christian and making the right to own guns a big deal is not a good witness for Christ, imo.

I am sure all the hunters and gun-toting people on the list will hate my post.

While I am a firm supporter of the 2nd amendment, I don't think this has any religious significance. Christians do not need guns to protect the church--God is in control. Also, the "antichrist" figure, if future, would be an immutable part of the plan of God. Whether or not we have guns would be irrelevant. Rifles, shotguns, pistols, and machine guns do not perform so well against F-16s, B-2s, ICBMs, etc. anyway ;) .

As an avid gun shooter and Hunter(sorry marcia :( ) I think no its not an issue the church should be pushing but I think we as Americans should support the right to keep and bear arms. Deer jerky is great. [IMG]

My girlfriend shot a 12 point buck last year (she's the main reason I'm into hunting.)

I don't see it as a religious issue, but the right to keep and bear arms is a pretty clear right in the constitution, and limiting the gun ownership of law abiding citizens should be considered unconstitutional, whether the reason was to provide for a militia, hunting, or whatever.

Michigan has very convoluted laws on the subject. We have one of the tightest registration laws I have seen, but also a great CCW law, so it can be confusing.

I am a natural born citizen of New York State. Therefore I feel it is not only my right to be armed but also my duty as an American.

I agree with Marcia, guns are for militias.

Section 311 of US code Title 10: Agrees with this also.

    (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of Title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
    (b) The classes of the militia are-

    (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and

    (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that...it is their right and duty to at all times armed." Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824.

More From T. Jefferson on the 2nd amendment

So, if you are an able-bodied male aged 17-45 and you do not own a firearm, you are neglecting your duty to your country.

Congratulations to your girlfriend DeclareHim on her 12 point. [IMG] But, the second amendment has nothing to do with deer or duck hunting.

Last time I checked none of the major threats we are facing in this world today had any of those weapons.

The Bill of Rights are individual rights guaranteed by the US Constitution.

I would never take any of them lightly, especially the 2nd.

Hardsheller, as a woman who spends 5 nights a week alone because my son works at night, I can honestly say the threat of terrorism isn't my biggest worry when I'm home alone. It's the ones on the streets who do have handguns that bothers me the most. That is exactly the reason I keep a handgun under my pillow. I live in the country and the Sheriff's office is 14 miles away. There are about as many criminals in the country as there are in the cities.

As a Southerner, you cannot be one without your gun! [IMG]

Seriously, you must be able to defend yourself and your family, and that would include having the right to own and use (if necessary) your gun. Unfortunately, the criminals will always have their guns, so you should be able to have yours, too. As one whose life was saved by having a gun, I feel very strongly about this.

As well, you contribute to taxes and the control of the animal population every time you hunt!

We, the people, ARE the militia! It was the backwoods farmers, ordinary "joes", etc. (in other words the militia) that helped to win the American Revolution. As Oliver Cromwell said, "Put your trust in God; but mind to keep your powder dry!" He wasn’t talking about baking powder, honey. ;)

Jesus Christ said in Luke 22:36, "…and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." Toting a gun IS a good witness for Christ. The right to self-preservation is a God-given right.

Without the Right to bare arms this Country would not have been able to keep its freedom to Worship God as a Baptist. It was those brave Men and Women who took up arms to give us that Freedom. It is a issue for Christians the 2nd ammenment gives us the right to protect ourselves and our right to worship God. The right to bare arms is so if the Government turn into a tyrant we can defend ourselves against it.

I knew that all the posts would be for guns -- I just knew it! This question was a waste of time, imo, because it could be predicted that everyone would agree that guns are great.

If any agent attempted to do this, that agent would be the U.S. government.

But what is most interesting is they are giving away a Gun for a prize.
