Rec a credit card offer from a bank in Sioux Falls, SD,
First offer I have had in a long time. Probably because the recession is coming to a close.
Looks like a great deal, just one minor detail
.
.
.
.
.
They want an annual fee
.
Well, lots of bank cards do
.
.
So how much is this one?
.
.
.
.
.
.
175 dollars - can you believe that!
.
Did I send it back, of course I did
In THEIR self addressed postage paid envelope.
.
.
What did I say
"$175 Fee! You have got to be kidding me"
of course, I did not fill it out (does have my name and address on it) but did not sign it
Should I accept this credit card?

I usually send them back after writing "please remove from your mailing list." I use their postage-paid envelopes, too.

Beacuse, if they send another one, I will do the same thing - think Groundhog day!!! -

I do not know if it is true or not, but I was told you can take their pre-paid envelope, paste it to a box full of rocks and mail it back to them. They have to pay for the weight of the rocks.
Is this ethical? -

That must have been the Amex. We've gotten that one too! Yeah - in your dreams am I paying a fee!!!!!

In the UK we have something called the Postal Preference Service. My wife and I are registered with it, and it stops a lot of unsolicited post, such as offers to take out a new credit card. Do you have anything similar in the States?
-
David, we have a similar service in Canada. The credit card companies, however, find ways around it. The best deal is to have but one card and pay it off each month. They don't bother people who don't owe money.
I read somewhere that the average American has 8 credit cards maxed out! That is an amazing debt, if it is true.
Cheers,

It sounds like the First Premier Bank card. Google it, and you will find many unsatisfied cardholders.
I really don't think AMEX is worth the fee, personally, but they do provide customer service to a greater degree than other cards. Of course, with the regular AMEX cards, the balance must be paid off every month. -
Join a credit union! They generally don't charge annual fees. Better to be screwed by neighbors than strangers.
We have 4 active credit cards and never paid an annual fee have not failed to pay off the bill every month.
We have a COSTCO membership and a COSTCO/AMX credit card. Our savings on coffee pay for the membership and we run 80% of our spending through AMX. Never had a problem with AMX and the kick back is several hundred bucks cash a year. -
Sort of second handed info. I too her word for it. -
Our 20 year old, penniless college student son receives about 1 credit card app a week. I've been shredding them - he's either been away at college or working in NC this summer for most of them - but sending them back is a good idea. I think I'll start doing that. :tongue3:
We have one credit card and pay no annual fee. -
Next time, I am thinking of telling them, if they want to send me another offer, they will need to send me a $10 application fee!
