Hi,
I'm in the UK at the moment but I've heard that some Christians in DC are protesting over proposals to seek the death peanlty for the two Washington snipers.
Personally, I believe they ought to be executed, for that's what God wants.
"And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;...a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him."
Genesis 4:11-15.
What do the rest of you think about the death penalty?

I am not against capital punishment in principle. I have stated that previously on another thread that I don't support capital punishment because the evidentiary process is often negligently abused. I'm speaking of those situations where evidence that would otherwise exonerate a person is ignored, and this happens far too often.
If however, it is established and proven that the two suspects must be the snipers - evidence and testimony is neither fabricatd or buired - then I don't have a moral with problem with government, the state, executing them if that is that penalty is according the law. -
Just show me the switch!! Just show me the switch!!
-
Just get it over quick and don't use too many tax dollars in the process.

I think this exactly the sort of crime the death penalty is there for. I'd like to know just a little bit more about the dynamics of the relationship between stepson and stepdad before I voted on death penalty for the younger one, but I would probably have no problem with that either.

All are presumed innocent before the law until found guilty by a jury of their peers.
Maybe they should have a fair trial first.
Cheers,
Jim -
I think that there is a large oak tree in a park around (real close I hope) one of our national monuments. I believe it would serve justice to have the quick fair trial over in about four days and on the quint, park a big grey, Jack with a rope hovering over the top and put Mr. Muhammed's head in it and slap the Jack on the rump and watch the Jack take off and Mr. Muhammed twitch. We could advertize all over the world we have a new national monument to murderers and Islam. Let him hang and the buzzards in congress can have a meal more suitable to their nature.

I think it best if we don't speak for what God wants. -
I have to go with the death penalty if it is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.(If that is ever really possible) The 17 year old seems to have suffered some kind of abuse from the man so I don't know where I stand on him.
But in the Bible it says that we are to follow the laws of the land or be punished. "Give unto Cesar what is Cesar's" :(
I truly feel deep sorrow for anyone with that much confusion and hate within them. How horrible for the Devil to have worked through him like that. Praise God I can not imagine!
Love in Christ Angie -
If found guilty, strap them to Jimmy Spencer's front bumper for the next scheduled short track trace.
BTW, if the things we have heard about the case in the news are accurate, the trial should takd about 30 minutes. But of course it will take much longer. -

Gut shot and left to slowly die in front of a Home Depot. Got one here in Casper . . . -
I sincerely hope that they are tried in Virginia. At least that state is not afraid to use its death penalty once in a while. The problem with the death penalty is that when it is called for the states do not enforce it quickly enough. We should re-write such laws to allow for one appeal. If the appeal fails to demonstrate the innocence of the suspect we should take them right from the courtroom to the execution chamber and be done with it. That is of course after a short visit with a pastor who can tell them that they are about to meet their maker and show them their need to be saved. Give them an hour or two to think over their life, actions, and the truth of God's Word. Then POW a .50 cent bullet to the head (or whatever method of execution is to be used).

Hopefully now that they have been caught and are considering what they have done, The Holy Spirit will be able to convict them of Jesus Christ and what He can do for each of them.
It is possible for these two to have an encounter with Jesus Christ and to be born again. No matter how horrible sin is in a persons life, The blood of Jesus Christ can restore them to the Father.
Hopefully there are Christians in Virginia that will reach out to these and offer the chance of eternal life. Rather than showing them hatred. It does not excuse the horrible things that they have done, But our focus should be on justice not revenge. Otherwise we are no better than they. -
One chap supposedly served in the US Armed Services and in the Gulf War.
Americans really don't care, do they. I am disgusted as some of these responses. Be civil about it at least. If death penalty, so be it, but show some decency.
When does a Christian testimony stop? At the church door stoop?
Sorry,
Jim -
I agree with Jim, if guilty, then fine, execute them. But lets have a trial before we do. I also agree, I'm not seeing very many christian attitudes, most seem to be leaning toward revenge, and not justice.

Justice IS the death penalty, Ben, although I'm not so sure of some of the methods suggested above...
They will each get their own trial, since one is still a juvenile. Whether or not he will be tried as an adult, I don't know.
And yes, I do hope the people reach out to them, but I seriously doubt if there will be any response from the elder of the two. The seventeen year old just might still be reachable, though. -
I'm actually disturbed at how eager you are to have these guys killed, and in manners that are not at all pleasant. Suggesting manners in which to kill them is sick and twisted, it has no place in the house of God.
God Bless

I voted no. But under the circumstances, I'm pretty sure that capital cases will be tried. The MD State's Attorney keeps talking about "the punishment fitting the crime," and this morning said he felt confident that a jury would find that there were the extenuating circumstances required for the cases to go capital. He's calling the morning during which 4 people werwe shot one incident. They'll also be trying to prove that extortion was the motive for the killings, which would be the felony extenuating circumstance.
But I still vote, "no."
