Because of their treacherous invasion and waging a war of aggression on their "countrymen" (Lord deliver me from such loving brothers), Southrans have HISTORICALLY referred to the US Federal Flag as the "bloody banner" and the "bloody eagle" on top of it.

Personally, I don't know how I would do that as my ancestry is a mixture of Scottish, Irish, German, and Native American. And I suspect that is the case with a lot of folks.

By the way, if you notice my avatar is the U.S. flag and I will be flying my U.S. flag on the front of my house on Labor Day - provided I get it fixed to the pole properly(it keeps coming loose).

I don't have a problem with this flag as a symbol of the South (Dixie Land) and as flags go I think it looks nice too (design wise). I guess your view of the South comes into play. Many people around the world would see either the U.S.A. or U.K. flags as negative symbols. But I like all three flags and the Christian flag as well .

Anybody who thinks we DIDN'T lose the War?

Try flying any Confederate flag above your local state capitol.

Try not obeying Federal Laws on speed limits - or the Feds will not give you back your highway money that they have usurped from your people.

Try not signing up for the Military Draft.

Try not paying illegal taxes (including income tax).

Try to have your State Militia NOT be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan.

State's Rights, the single cause of the War, is still an issue . . but laughable. We lost the War and the Feds gave up the pretense of honoring the Constitution.

</font>[/QUOTE]Exactly what I am talking about. Why is it that you are only proud of your southern heritage? As a Native American I would think you could care less about the Civil War. These lands belonged to the Native Americans in the first place. What right did we have to fight a war on somebody elses land? Our American history is full of many negatives, from the north to the south, east to west, republican and democrat. I will not be troubled by the past. I am with you on supporting limited government, i just don't see the need of dragging our past along in the process.

    Oh no!!!

Using that logic , would it be an act of treason for me a native born American to celebrate Cinco de Mayo here in Washington State on the 5th of May!?

    _______________________________________________

I don't see the significance of Cinco de Mayo and English/America. Was Cinco de Mayo a Mexican-Franco battle?

The US War of Independence was a direct rebellion against England, of which I am still a citizen. To celebrate the victory of the US over England is tantamount to treason.

I did go on to say, whilst I see the logic, but have never looked at it that way. To celebrate the victory of Mexico at the Alamo might be closer to my thought.

Normally, I don't accept people by their nationality, but by their own personality.

By the way, I don't think we in England depended on the Yanks to save us from Germany. Where in God's name were the Yanks when we withstood an entire year of bombing, day in and day out? Sitting at home saying we don't want to get involved...F.D.R. The Canadian Army gained more respect in the European countries than the Yanks ever did in all the countries involved. So, get off that lame horse, Johnny-come-lately.

    Cheers,

    Jim

But the USA was supplying England materially during this time.

England was safe from invasion as Hitler was not going to send his troops across the English Channel. Hitler made a lot of mistakes - such as attacking the Soviet Union. Perhaps if he hadn't done that he could have had a large enough force to invade and defeat England. I don't know.

But I hope in a few weeks to begin reading a comprehensive book on the history of World War II to learn more about it...after I finish reading the comprehensive book on the history of World War I I am currently reading.

Well brother Jim, America did have a war with Mexico (1846-1846) in which approximately 14,000 Americans were killed...

Ken, I think the point is this; the victory over Germany was a joint effort, and not a singular victory by the USofA, as is so often proclaimed. It gets tiresome hearing it, when we endured those bombs. I was a teenager in those days in London and I didn't have to read a book about it. I experienced it first hand.

I quite agree that Hitler made a number of blunders. He opened too many fronts. The French underground did a marvellous job of thwarting the plans of Germany. British intelligence and their false broadcasts misled Hitler and his generals.

The Battle of Britain, for example, took British, American, Canadian and Polish pilots in paper planes to defeat the mighty Luftwaf over London and other major cities in England and Scotland.

We were not ready for war in England and Mr. Chamberlain bought us time to prepare. We were barely ready a year later when it did come.

But that is history and this is now. As with the North and South, we must get on with it.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Not all of us were there, or even born, so if we want to learn about it we must read a book about it.

Sorry, I forgot you win everything, like VietNam, and countless other little nations you have invaded and held underthumb, like Cuba, those populace giants of militarism and great threat, real or imaginary.

Sorry, I don't think I wrote the way I meant to write. Using these quotes can sometimes be tricky.

I was meaning to ask who proclaims the nonsense that World War II was a singlehanded victory by the USA?

    what?

erm, Hitler did want to invade the UK - ever heard of Operation Sealion?

In the end, however, it made more sense for him to attack the USSR - it must be pointed out that he was extremely unlucky not to defeat russia - it was only the coldest winter in Russian history that stopped him

Nope. That's why after I finish the book I am reading on World War I, I have a book on World War II on deck, by the same author - John Keegan.

Doing some checking and I found that Operation Sealion was cancelled for good on October 12, 1940, which was before the USA became militarily involved. Therefore, U.S. military involvement was not going to be needed to stop an invasion of England.

Hitler was totally mystified at the British lack of "realism". After conquering the continent, he assumed Britain, alone in the world, would sue for a peace recognizing the conquests of the Third Reich.

It just didn't make sense. So uboat, commerce raiders and the "blitz" would knock some sense into those hard-headed Brits.

I have nothing but respect and admiration for their effort against impossible odds sans USA.

Parked in the minds of the German High Command--I'm talking about those men who "had it together"--Jodl, Guedaran, Rommel--not the peep-squeeks like Goering and Himmeler--but the High Command above mentioned--Jodl

Parked in their minds after the cancelation of Operation SeaLion and the iniatation of Operation Barbaroosa--here it is--this is what they "thought" of Hitler--but never had the nerve to say it to his face---

    "STUPID FOOL!!"

Result of SeaLion if exacuted as planned--

Britian would have become the heart of der Deutchland!

Stupid blundering mistakes by Hitler, sheer determination of the Brits AND the intervention of US Troops--and the decision to make Eisenhower Supreme Commander of all Allied troops---all played a part---no one of the above could have achieved total victory over the German Warmacht by themselves!! See?

Now, we are thankful it turned out like it did, ain't we??

By the way, for all the Brits out there who still look at American soldiers as "Over payed, over sexed and over here!"--here's one for ya--a newspaper reporter interviewed a captured German soldier toward the end of the war--and asked the simple question

"At what point did you realize that Germany had lost the war?"

"When I saw my first dead American soldier! He had on a brand new field jacket, brand new boots, brand new helmet, brand new shirt, brand new trousers, brand new rifle! He had several packs of cigarettes, two packs of gum, several candy bars and first aid kit! I looked at myself and realized--I had no boots, no field jacket, I was freezin'! I didn't have any cigarettes, no candy bars and no first aid kit! I knew then that Germany had lost the war! We were finished!"
