Would you want me (or somebody like me) to be a member of your church?
I am well educated, very opinionated, a veteran of 33+ years in full-time ministry (most as senior pastor), a perfectionist, gone much of the time out preaching so of little use in my home church, a college professor of homiletics, etc.
Would you feel awkward, threatened, insecure, cautious? Would you look over your shoulder all the time?
Oh, I do tithe!

Would not bother me, or my pastor. If you are looking for a church to go to, the commute would be a bit long.

Why not, like you said you're on the road.

Wouldn't bother me. I would appreciate the wisdom gained by your age, though you and I don't see eye to eye on everything. I am always willing to entertain well thought out positions and opinions.
-
Well...
After we have had the chance examine you and your doctrine (don't want any liberals ya know) and you have sat out in the narthex for the required three year period, I think we would allow you be baptized and join our fellowship. :D :D ;)
Just kiddin, we would happy to have you at Open Door Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. However, we are a SBC Church so I don't know if you would want to join, plus the commute might be a bit much for ya. -
No problem here. Come on or better yet - just send your tithe! :D
I have been in five pastorates over the last 23 years. In all except the first I had members who were former pastors. I think the total is somewhere around a dozen.
I only had problems with two of them. I never could trust either of them and suspected that both were working behind my back to gain their own following in the church. All I had to do to keep everything in it's proper place was to let them preach occasionally when I was out of town.
Oh did I mention that both their wives were problems too? :D -
You would be welcome. There is only one requirement. You would have to join the choir.
And there are many movies shot between Savannah and Jacksonville. There are always ads in the paper for extras. When the Legend of Bagger Vance came to town, several of the ladies in the church were extras in various scenes. -
Bob, if we could get you past that silly conservativism stuff you'd fit in quite well in an Alliance congregation (you even said "homiletics" instead of "preachin'" :D ). Every Alliance church with which I've been involved has had a healthy share of religion Ph.D.'s in the congregation. It makes pulpit supply much easier.

To borrow from Josh, yeah, I'd love to have you. I need some free pulpit supply! I have a couple in my church, but never can have too many men capable!
Honestly, it's no "threat." I have lawyers, Ph.Ds, et.al. in my church. Our area has more Ph.Ds per capita than anyplace in the nation (Thanks to ORNL, the Academic community, etc.). -
I have the former pastor of 27 years still in the congregation. If you act like he does you would be a welcome addition.
-
Forget extras, they are still fighting the Civil War here, you'd fit right in. Also, since you and your family are not related to anyone here, you'd spread out our gene pool some...

I am cutting my teeth where we have 4 licensed preachers, and 2 ordained pastors with over 40 years experience (the pastors have over 40 years each... not all of the preachers.). Made me nervous, but I am getting over it. And I get more comments from the inexperienced (ie.. other members) than from the preachers.
