A source said today that Gov. Rod Blagojevich was taken into federal custody at his North Side home this morning. The U.S. attorney's office would not confirm the information.
A Blagojevich spokesman said he was unaware of the development. "Haven't heard anything -- you are first to call," Lucio Guerrero said in an e-mail.
The stunning, early morning visit by authorities to the governor's North Side home came amid revelations that federal investigators had recorded the governor with the cooperation of a longtime confidant and had begun to focus on the possibility that the process of choosing a Senate successor to President-elect Barack Obama could be tainted by pay-to-play politics.

More from that culture of corruption in the Democratic Party

Illinois Gov. and Chief of Staff Arrested on Corruption Charges
Unbelieveable, here is the link from the Chicago Tribune:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-rod-blagojevich-1209,0,7997804.story
From the Link:
Blagojevich and Harris, along with others, obtained and sought to gain financial benefits for the governor, members of his family and his campaign fund in exchange for appointments to state boards and commissions, state jobs and state contracts, according to the charges.
"The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering," U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement.
"They allege that Blagojevich put a 'for sale' sign on the naming of a United States senator; involved himself personally in pay-to-play schemes with the urgency of a salesman meeting his annual sales target; and corruptly used his office in an effort to trample editorial voices of criticism."

To the surprise of exactly nobody, yet another Illinois governor is accused of abusing his power for his own personal gain.
Did you know that the governor before Blagojevich is currently in prison because of his conviction on corruption charges?
Would it interest you to know that he's a Republican?

This just gets worse the more I read.
Here is the link to the CBS station in Chicago:
http://cbs2chicago.com/local/rod.blagojevich.charged.2.883170.html
From the link:
In the earliest intercepted conversation about the Senate seat described in the affidavit, Blagojevich told Deputy Governor A on November 3 that if he is not going to get anything of value for the open seat, then he will take it for himself: "if . . . they're not going to offer anything of any value, then I might just take it." Later that day, speaking to Advisor A, Blagojevich said: "I'm going to keep this Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain." He added later that the seat "is a [expletive] valuable thing, you just don't give it away for nothing."
Over the next couple of days – Election Day and the day after – Blagojevich was captured discussing with Deputy Governor A whether he could obtain a cabinet position, such as Secretary of Health and Human Services or the Department of Energy or various ambassadorships. In a conversation with Harris on November 4, Blagojevich analogized his situation to that of a sports agent shopping a potential free agent to the highest bidder. The day after the election, Harris allegedly suggested to Blagojevich that the President-elect could make him the head of a private foundation.
Later on November 5, Blagojevich said to Advisor A, "I've got this thing and it's [expletive] golden, and, uh, uh, I'm just not giving it up for [expletive] nothing. I'm not gonna do it. And, and I can always use it. I can parachute me there," the affidavit states.

Democrat, Republican, what does it matter.
It seems like if you are the Gov. of Illinois the you are corrupt.
Power corrupts it's as simple as that.

You are absolutely right...
But what is is about "Chicago Politicians"?
Why has Chicago been given the reputation for Corruption?
Is it coincidence, or is there something in the water of Chicago that breeds corruption, or is there another reason.
Power corrupts.. true...
But Why don't we hear about corruption say in Jacksonville FL?
or Cincinnatti OH, or Toledo, OH, or any other cities in the US...
It has to be going on there as well...

Corruption is bipartisan.
I find it disheartening no matter which party it is.

Well now, how much work will Obama have to put into distancing himself from another shady character.

And this is where our new president comes from.
Anyone on this forum know how he won his first election?
By getting his competitors kicked off the ticket.
I would still like to know how much of that $750 million he raised came from illegal foreign sources.

Let us think about this problem.
If San Francisco is Sodom by the Sea, what is Chicago?

The sad thing...if an election were held today, Blagojevich would likely be re-elected.
The majority of Chicagoans ask for corruption...they keep voting it in.

You keep eluding to the "New Type of Christian Political Discussion" thread.
If you would bother to actually read that thread, you will see that I did not agree to anything posted there.
In fact, the only two comments I made was:
"Wow! Where are all the hyper-conservatives at?" and "I forgive you!"
As it turns out, I need to repeat my comment of "I forgive you" and apply it to you, for bearing false witness against me.
I guess it would be too much to expect an apology from you, or would it?

I agree.
Chicago is known for producing corruption.
Let's see what becomes of Obama.
He already has questionable connections.
Follow the money.

Blagojevich is out on bail.
If he appoints himself as Senator perhaps the dems in the US Senate will rally around him.
Illinois could then be represented by a crook and one who thinks of the American Soldier as a jack-booted thug.
That is on par with being previously represented by two Marxists.

Obama is steeped in the traditions of Chicago politics.
Wanna see how effective he has been as a "community organizer", state senator and U.S Senator?
Take a look at the crime rate and poverty on the south side of Chicago and get a preview of how successful his "organizing" wil be on a federal level.

"But it is a sad fact, too, that many South Side dreams do not come true. For this is a place haunted by urban nightmares and the weight of entrenched poverty. It's a place where a community organizer looking for genuine challenges might come and get down to work. The vast area -- it covers about half of Chicago -- feels like an edgy, screechy film with that silvery El train looping around it like an electronic snake. It's a community that struts -- and yet starves for a break. It has an urban Northern vibe, yet sings the Southern song of the gospel and blues."

I know one "organizer" that has already been there.
