How important are standards of dress and music, etc... to you as a fundamentalist?

We should always remember: "We are the only 'bible' most people will ever read"
-
For example: some pentecostals think it is wrong to wear short sleeves and even own a tv.
Do you agree with them or are your standards a bit more liberal? -
Suppose you had a church that was located in an Amish area. Would your "standards" be different than they would be if you had a church in, for example, Daytona Beach FL? Why or why not?

Standards are necessary in a declining society. Unfortuantely, as society has declined so have the standards of the churches.

There can never be one set of standards for fundamentalists/conservatives. Standards of dress will differ from culture to culture and from region to region.

 Amazing isn't it? -
Standards are really subjective. To me, if people are dressed appropriately (not in bathing suits or whatever), but most of all have their hearts and minds dressed for the Lord, that is what is important. :) Hey, I could come to church completely covered....in my horseback riding duds (breeches, tall leather boots, polo shirt and baseball cap) but I still don't think it's appropriate. :) -

What about pants on women, "short britches", mixed bathing in normal bathing wear, Christian contemporary music, going to the movies, etc...
How do you feel concerning those things? -
-
It depends on the standards. Some people (in my opinion) go WAY overboard with trying to keep standards--putting way too much pressure on Christians than God intends.
One man told me that playing ANY game that required the use of cards was sin. He didn't find that in the Bible. I had a cousin who (back in the 1960's) thought that comic books, coffee, and TV were sinful. That was before they added the profanity we hear today, or the sex scenes, or the shows about homosexuals. It was also at a time when comic books were clean and suitable for children.
I do have standards, of course, as well as my own personal convictions, but I don't try to force them on others if the Bible is silent about them.
As for how we dress, the Bible only mentions women's dress, and it states that women are not to be flashy and alluring in their manner of dress, and that they are not to dress to entice or draw undue attention to themselves. When I'm out in public, I usually wear shorts, T shirt or sleeveless shirt and sandals, and I see nothing wrong with that. Besides, no one is going to be attracted to this tired, worn-out old body. -
I think these folks have not thought their position through. -

This is well put and a moderate view. When do we subject others to our standards, do we not get into legalism very quickly? We might even have our "sin list" that we hold up to judge another? True?
"That is all!" -
"When I'm out in public, I usually wear shorts, T shirt or sleeveless shirt and sandals,"
Went to a local 'baptist' church where my grand-kids were participating in a program. Was greeted at the door by a man who was dressed exactly as above. As a matter of fact...he looked similar to Jon-Marc. :wavey: -
I remember the day a woman asked me if it was ok for her to come to church without wearing a hat. My answer was quick, "I don't care if you come in a bathing suit. Just come."
You can date it by the hat thingy. Things have changed with time, but people try to apply New Testament cultural settings to modern day culture. Funny how we can apply cultural changes to-day, but we can't see the the cultural changes in New Testament times.
I don't think I could go to church other than in a full suit, but that is for me. To you my answer would be as above,,,,,Just come. It is your mind and heart that I want, and not your apparel.
Cheers,
Jim -
Three people have said you can't be a true fundamentalist without dress standards and music standards/ This is quite a claim. The only other option other than fundamentalist is- liberal. So are all people who don't emphasize dress standards and music standards liberals?

Our "standard" is the Bible, not cultural preference or a man's opinion being preached as God's word.
When "standards" become our focus instead of God's word, we're in trouble.
